Narset Transcendent, what happened?

This card's value more than halved (They are available for 11 Euros/ ~12,50$ in my region).
I never played with her, but she obviously didn't live up to the expectations. Can anyone provide more insight on that topic? Will her value drop even more? Thanks in advance!

The prices of most planeswalkers gets bumped up because they're great casual bait. Add on the silly amount of hype some (Narset included) get and their price tags are ridiculous when people are preordering, since they want them ASAP. The hype dies and she'll fall to the $15 range while in standard, less post rotation.

Won't ever see Legacy play because Jace, the Mind Sculptor and doesn't see Modern play.

Even with out Jace, she's not great. She's too costly for marginal value.

If control actually did something in Modern, she could see play. For now, people are finally getting past the hype train.

I'm just asking because I kinda want to own a playset, but I refused to pay the 25 Euros she was at when the set came out, and I haven't been checking the prices since. So you're saying she's not competitive and will drop even further? I honestly didn't see that coming as I had assumed she'd be good in some sort of UW/UWx control. But then again, I can be happy to buy her at a reasonable price later.

As long as Jace and Cryptic command hold the 4 cm for control decks she's not seeing much play, add to that that bar Twin blue is really lackluster in modern.

She has been dropping ~$.50 a day for the past few weeks. I would wait until she levels out. See here.

Thanks for the link SimicPower. Do you personally think she'll drop below 10$?

People realized that even at 6 starting loyalty that she's not a threat. Her +1 ended up being far more conditional and ineffective than they speculated. The hype about starting at 6 loyalty and easier to protect suddenly wasn't as relevant because, more often than not, you were using her -2 ability which negated what people initially thought. I won't say everyone, but a large portion of the community thought she'd see modern play and help control make a small comeback in the format but that hasn't happened. Basically everything people speculated about creating all the hype became irrelevant and what your seeing is her price stabilizing because of the lack of play she sees.
For the foreseeable future, she has no reason to rise back up. I don't know how much more she'll drop over the next few months because she is a mythic, but at least for now her price won't be jumping back up. However, as things rotate this fall and new sets are released that could change. There is always the possibility that her abilities become more relevant because of new cards, mechanics, or meta changes. So just be on the watch at that time, any increase in play will mean some sort of price rise will follow.

abenz419 thanks for the insight, I hadn't even thought about rotation issues. I will make my buying decision during spoiler season then.

I pulled her during prerelease and traded her for 2 Polluted Deltas a Bloodstained Mire and an Underworld Cerberus(to even it out, she was 35$). I specifically asked about the fetches and he was cool
The dude had a pages of modern staples and a Force of Will so I was totally cool with it
Silly people and their planeswalkers

Narset Transcendent was just purely overhyped. Reid Duke in an article for the mothership called her what she is, a win-more. She doesn't help you win the matchups you were going to lose, and she just helps you win more in the matchups you were just going to win.

Seem similar to me. Narset is a little better and had more hype so a lot of people are in deep and will try to make her work. $10 seems like a good price but it could go lower.

I never liked her in any 60-card constructed, but I still love her for a lot of Commander decks. There, I think she can shine just as bright as Mind Sculptor. She can rebound Time Warps and big board wipes to protect her even more, can provide you card advantage, and has an ultimate that is certainly a win-con if reached. She shouldn't go below $10, and if she hits $10 that's when I'll get one. Well, I should say she shouldn't go below $10 while in standard.
Edit: I can make edit's now??? This is amazing!!

I still think she is really good. Control is not a huge thing in modern, but if it does gain ground, she will go up.
May 14, 2015 2 a.m.
That's not true Didgeridooda... the only way she'll go up if control gains some ground in modern is if she's actually apart of those deck list. That's a big assumption for a card that doesn't see any current play at all in the format.

She's kind of good anti-control. she offers value off of what's in your hand and getting more cards, and if she ults against a control deck you win the game. Control also doesn't have many ways to easily kill her in modern. I could see her being a sideboard piece for control mirrors if control becomes a thing, but I'm not sure mainboard.

Unfortunately, she just didn't do what she promised to do. Her +1 is just every so slightly too weak in modern control decks. Compared to Jace, Architect of Thought's -2 it's pretty bad. She looked for a while like she'd be magnificent but she just doesn't really do enough. It's a real shame though.

I'm running her in Creatureless Esper control in modern and so far I think she's great.

Shaun McLaren posted a series of videos with Narset in a Modern UWR control deck yesterday over on SCG's Premium. It wasn't impressive in that build, let's just say that.

Her hype likely dropped down. That's all I can think of since I don't follow standard. Or there's just more of her in the market now.
