I have someone interested in my FOIL Steam Vents and has with a FOIL Birds of Paradise 8th or Karn Liberated available. Which is the better deal for me, if either? I figure the Karn is better since BOP has been reprinted so many times but I've always wanted a foil. I'm afraid my vents will eventually gain value though too.

Definintely trade for the Karn Liberated. Birds of Paradise are a dime a dozen, and the promo one is somewhere around 13 dollars, just get that (it's BEAUTIFUL). Shocks will go up eventually, but in like 2-3 years time eventually, and foil Steam Vents are gonna fluctuate a lot, especially right now that delver is a big thing in both eternal formats. It's probably best to get rid of it now, and take the Karn Liberated if you can.

I'd keep the vents if you can. It's the most widely played shock in modern, and you have a foil version. Its currently at a low price so trading it away now would just be ripping yourself off. If you really want a karn though, go for that because it's about equal. But you might regret it in 6-12 months time.

The real question is, do you actually want either of those cards? Don't trade just because someone wants to, better to wait and get something in trade you can actually use!

That said, if it was me, I'd take the Karn Liberated.

I'd keep the foil Steam Vents. TCG already has it as being more expensive than the Karn, and It has a lot more upside potential. Karn seems like a potential reprint candidate if there's an MM2 as well.

Thanks guy (gals too?). I really want a BOP foil but with all the reprints it's seen there are too many out there. He decided that he didn't want to trade one for the foil vents anyway. I need a karn for my collection but like a few of you said, the foil vents is low right now so I'm going to pass on any trade with this person for now. I just got back into mtg after 13-14 years so im unfamiliar with alot of card's and what their future values may be so again, thank you!

That foil vents could hit $100. Normal shocklands were around $40 each at one point a while back (when modern first came to be as a format). Therefore after a year or two of them not being printed they'll creep up and up and up.

How about a FOIL Karn, is that something that may be worth hanging on to?

I'd hang on to the foil Karn unless you're trading him for some other really awesome stuff, he has doubled his worth in the last 18 months (source: magic.tcgplayer.com )

If you want the Karn, take the deal, if not, keep the vents. I generally prefer to trade for non foil cards of equal value to other foils, but a foil Steam Vents is pretty significant, and you'll probably have a better offer made down the road. Although, I don't see Karn going down any time soon...

I actually ended up keeping the Foil Vents and traded nearly 60 KTK rares for a Foil Brimaz and a Foil Karn so I'm sitting pretty good with my foil collection. Just finished my foil ktk fetch set too. Only problem is now I don't have hardly any lower value trader's left, luckily it was all standard "junk" I'll just pull more of anyway.
