New to Selling

I have a selection of cards worth about $450 that I am looking to unload for cash, and was wondering if anyone knew the best place for me to sell. (Everything is NM quality)

  • TCGPlayer lists them at $433 (add $14 for 2 Phantasmal Image)s.

  • SCG and Ebay all have very close price approximations.

  • I have heard that ChannelFireball is a great place, but I'm not sure how to use the UI.

I am looking to either sell as a bulk purchase, or a couple large selections, I do not want to sell singles.

Which site has the best prices for me, which site has the best reputation, and which site is the fastest and easiest?

I think eBay works pretty well for bulk collections, most others don't really do so great if you're not selling singles, in my opinion.

You can sell an entire collection on ebay, you are unlikely to get full price.

If you're looking for cash, selling on ebay is your best bet. For store credit, CFB (channel fireball) is good. You get about 75% store credit... To use CFB, go to their homepage, click buylist, then search up each card in the search box. Select the amount, then click 'sell'. At checkout, pick the 'store credit' option...

Here's the deal you're not going to get that price from stores.

Taking Phantasmal Image as the example.

If you visit mtgprice.com you'll see stores selling them for 6-8$. Taking Channel Fireball, they are selling them for 7.99 each and will buy it from you for 3.50.

mtgprice has a buy from and sell to tabs you can use for each card. It gives a list for a lot of sites, I took channel fireball as the example. As long as the cards are in the condition you specify, you'll get the price they will buy at. (FYI for the image, strikezone has the best buy price at 4.15).

Now if you're not selling this to them in person, shipping is going to be considered and out of your pocket. And this is especially true for bulk. A shop like cool stuff, buys bulk and common/uncommon at 7-8 per 1000$ with 20% of it uncommons and they need to be in near mint. If they aren't, they'll ship it back to you at cost to you. Bulk rares are like 10 cents each iirc.

That is the very basic of basics for buy listing. The tips and tricks are to make sure you're grading it Correctly some people do see lp as nm and visa versa, so you might have problems with some buy lists. Usually they offer the lp price or ask to ship it back to you.

As mentioned Ebay is probably your best bet for unloading this stuff, because the first month is free of fees. If you're already an online seller there, then the fees are tacked on also. Bring in fees, you'll probably make 1-2$ more than buy listing. With a bunch of hassles.

There is also a facebook group for buying/selling mtg cards. You cna list the prices you want to sell them at, but you probably will not get interest unless they are closer to TCG LOW, because why would I pay the mid price from someone I don't know, when I can get it for the low with a bit more safety?

Though the bonus with the facebook group is the cost is usually, the price + 3% paypal fees or a paypal gift, so you get the actual price you want without the fees. But don't sell bulk here.

Personally, I wait till I go to a large event with many retailers and look at the buy lists and sell cards to the stores that way. It's the easiest for me but I don't get the value you're expecting.

Yea, TCG/Ebay are the best bets for selling for cash. You lose some in fees and whatnot but it's your best route. If you put the effort into selling individual pieces you will make much more than you would an entire collection.

If you're trading in, I've had the best success buylisting to Troll and Toad or Strikezone games. Strikezone is known for giving the best prices but is pretty strict on their grading. Otherwise Troll and Toad is up there w/ their prices and aren't near as strict on their grading scale.

The more effort you put into selling the more you will get out of it.

If you aren't strapped for time, you could get quite a bit more by piecing the collection out on eBay, even with shipping costs. However, I see that you're looking for a more immediate cash injection. Therefore, you may prefer Channel Fireball, but also check out ABUGAMES.com, they give decent prices as well.

There are also people here that buy collections. That link is private so we can not see it.

Worth a shot. TCG low is a closer to normal expectation for collections price from what I have seen.

It also depends if the value is from 10 dollar cards, or a ton of 50 cent - 1 dollar cards.

most people will buy the collection at 60% tcg mid pricing, depending on the collection. NM revised duel will get you much closer to TCG mid then standard rares.

id never buy duals or collections based on tcg mid, tcg is the lowest in stock for nm/sp (it does not count hp/mp last i checked) so that is a much more real representation of cash value.

I would take all the higher value cards and try to sell 1 by 1 or in playsets or such, this will get you much higher value, then cards that are say $1-5 might try lots or just buying listing, often if a card is selling for $1.50 id rather take the 50c buy list when i add in 5-10c un/commons, foils, etc and cards that places like CFB buy at close to tcg low and save myself the hassle.
