Noble Hiearch. Going, going, gone.

For those who may be unaware, Noble Hierarch practically doubled in price over the last day. It's now sitting at $60 on Starcity and hovering at $50 on TCG. Unforunately I don't see this going down but rather up as the demand to replace Deathrite Shaman increases. This was a good spec for anyone who cashed in. I happened to get a playset for $30 a piece on eBay.
Agreed, but you also have to realize that finding a replacement for DRS is incredibly hard and this is the next best card. Also, DRS was opened a TON in of the most opened sets in history and Hierarch was released in a small set. Supply vs Demand is screwed. lol

I like the principle of Modern. I absolutely hate the economics of Modern.

Holy... Geez, and I thought it was bad before... At first I thought you said that you'd managed to get a playset for $30 total, lol.
Makes me wonder how much Deathrite's gonna drop to.
February 4, 2014 8:41 p.m.
No no, Playset at $120. Deathrite as already dropped almost $2 but I don't expect it below $10. It's a staple in Legacy and that will keep it alive.

DRS was only $13 to begin with. It's still a Legacy and EDH staple, and it's still Standard-legal. It isn't going anywhere just yet.

GoldGhost012 says... #9
Wait. It's a staple in EDH? I've never heard that before.
February 4, 2014 8:51 p.m.
Almost every mana fixer is a staple in EDH and DRS is the best of them all. Any B/G deck should use it.

How has no one noted yet the jump of Dark Depths ? It's at $57 TCGMid at the time of writing, and it was higher earlier.
February 4, 2014 9:24 p.m.
pingpongball120 - No offense, but I'll trust Epochalyptik on this one. Personally, I haven't seen DRS in a commander game, but I recognize that he is a powerful advantage generator and can get rid of Eldrazi when they hit the yard.
February 4, 2014 9:25 p.m.
I actually have no idea. I just looked at it, seeing the Bitterblossom and Noble Hierarch jumps and thought, hey, what if Dark Depths jumped? and it did.
February 4, 2014 9:27 p.m.
Did DRS get banned in Modern? I don't play Modern yet so I wasn't keeping track of the banned list. And if so, why? Is it another BBE type thing to discourage Jund players?
February 4, 2014 9:28 p.m.
$20-25 I think, around the price of Noble Hierarch . @capriom85 yes, DRS got banned because Jund/k was "too powerful a deck."
February 4, 2014 9:34 p.m.
It wasn't because Jund itself was too powerful. It was that DRS was preventing the format from becoming more diverse and limited decks that operated on card synergy. Also, DRS had the benefit of being a great early game ramper, while shining in the late game as well, which wizards said went against the setbacks to mana dorks.
February 4, 2014 9:42 p.m.
Dark Depths went up because of Vampire Hexmage combo that people are trying to work into the format. It's pretty sweet. Also, Noble was $30ish before it spiked. Snapcaster Mage is also rising due to DRS no longer preying on its recursion spells.
February 4, 2014 9:58 p.m.
Also, Dark Depths is a staple in Legacy lands decks that one the last Legacy GP.

@pingpongball120: Actually, DRS is an EDH staple. At the competitive level, it's a phenomenal ramp and hate card. It disables reanimator and recursive effects, and it feeds on fetches. (It does the same things in EDH as in Legacy and every other format.)

I just realized how many typos I've made in my posts. Wow, epic fail.

Dark Depths is very good in Lands (but anybody who's just now trying to play that is a nutjob) and in jund depths decks.

Yes, it is. Somebody asked why it was increasing in price, so I answered.

It's banned in Modern, but legal in EDH and Legacy.

I meant to reply to DrFunk27, whose statement "Dark Depths went up because of Vampire Hexmage combo that people are trying to work into the format" indicated a belief that Dark Depths is legal in Modern.

Dark Depths went up because of new legend rule and Thespian's Stage combo.... People are trying to work it into Land
The Vampire Hexmage synergy is old stuff....

Also, DrS disrupt those combo with Hermit Druid in EDH, one of the top archetype at competitive level
February 5, 2014 5:56 a.m.
I forgot Depths was banned in modern but I meant that depths lands is making a resurgence in legacy.
February 5, 2014 12:27 p.m.
Dark Depths is used with Thespian's Stage in Legacy.
February 5, 2014 8:31 p.m.
So, just to weigh in on the price jump of Noble Hierarch : I don't see why it damn near doubled. It is sitting around $55 on TCG, which I like since I traded for my playset at around $100 for the whole thing a little bit ago, but, I am pretty sure it was already a staple in Melira Pod decks so that's nothing ne, and how does it even benefit Jund? T: for a G, sure, but what about R and B?!?! I would think you can just use Elvish Mystic and get the same result since I don't think the Exalted trigger is a big deal for a modern Jund deck.
February 5, 2014 10:21 p.m.
The biggest reason it doubled is because Zoo became a viable Tier 1 deck again, and Melira Pod is now running 3-4 Nobles to replace Shaman. The ceiling on this card is pretty crazy. I can see it reaching $70 easily.
