Not wasting Wastes?

Is anyone else planning on hoarding copious copies of Wastes as a long term investment?

Idk. Personally i dont think they will go beyond what old zendikar full arts did. So if you mean holding them for years then selling for 1.00 each you could make a profit.Seems like alot of BS for 1.00 per card

Barring a reprint in a future set, I don't think Wastes will have any more copies introduced into the market. That being said, I wouldn't go out of my way to just buy up all of them that I can. Remember, BFZ full-arts were hypu'd to death, and they're like 25 cents each now. Why? Because everyone did exactly what you were doing and bought up a ton of them. Tons getting opened in packs, fat packs. The market had a glut of them, and still does.

I have almost 200 of them, so yes. These will be the only full art copies ever if there are more made, so there's definitely going to be a market for them. Couple years down they could get up to Gitaxian Probe pricing, which is great considering I paid a quarter for all of them.

I think they will not pass 50 cents for a long, long time.

Lastdaysgunslinger You're missing two crucial differences:

  • Wastes only has one printing. There are several sets that have full art standard basics. And if i dont want to pay for aesthetics I can use any Island for blue (and red and black and green and white) but there aren't any other Wastes.

  • Wastes isn't likely to see a reprint any time soon (if at all).

canterlotguardian I'm aware the market is flooded, that's why I specified long term.

I think you're taking typical market effects on rarity over time and applying them somewhere that's an exception DarkMagician.

These Wastes were just as common as any other full art land. They also are ultimately unplayable outside of Standard. You don't need them in any extended format. There are an insane number of lands that tap for colorless. I even made a straight colorless deck in Standard that just vomits out good Eldrazi. And even in 26 lands I only used 6 Wastes basics because there are so many other good lands that tap for colorless.

So you have an ungodly number of unloved and unwanted basics that just happen to be full art floating out there.

Full art basics of color are actually valuable... and will continue to be... because people use them. The BFZ ones will see a very slow rise in price 3 or 4 years from now when they become increasingly harder to find.

And we can probably rule out a reprint considering Zendikar is essentially "cured" from the Eldrazi blight. The only way we can expect to see Wastes again is if Emmy shows up on another plane.

You want some rare and valuable lands? You're better off getting the NOT FULL ART basics from BFZ... the ones that you could only get from Deck Builder Tool Kits... good luck finding those things on the free market in five years.

Your principle of card prices are correct Magician, however you're incorrectly applying it to a very unique case.

One word:

Commander

It isn't a huge market, but the demand is and will be there for these things in colorless commander decks. That's literally the only thing i'm banking on, but I think it'll be worth it.
