Thoughts? Seems to be selling for 10-15 right now. I really think this land is pretty awesome for mono and 2 color decks.

As a legendary land, it could certainly be ran as a 2 of in most, if not all, mono decks. I can't see it working that well in two color decks since to use its ability your devotion to a color would need to be at a minimum three, but four to actually get use out of it. Will it see play? Probably, but I could only see it in mono-colored decks at this point.

I don't see it being used outside of monocolor EDH. Its other ability is useless until you reach devotion four, and you need to find a balance between maintaining consistent devotion and not limiting yourself on your options. It might see marginal play, but I'm not personally impressed.

I agree completely with Epochalyptik on this one. At a devotion of 3 it just becomes a basic land, and 4 gives you a marginal advantage. The only deck I see playing this would be some kind of mono-green ramp using this and Karametra's Acolyte, and of course all the mana dorks.

That is fair, I agree that this will probably only be used in Mono decks. I guess we will have to wait and see how prevelent they become in standard after Theros release.

most of its cost is hype right now, its price will start to drop a week after theros releases

Elves is in an awkward spot. Nykthos doesn't tap for green, so it's useless to Elves in the first few turns. After those turns, you don't necessarily need the extra mana anyway. Maybe as a 1-of or 2-of, but I think it's underwhelming as a whole.

Honestly Devotion on the whole is not for multi-colored decks.

Have to disagree a little, for one thing, some multi-colour EDH decks will still love this. With my Momir deck for example, midgame I can play a chain of little creatures that search for other little creature and give me draw (hence the chain) and then tap the land to get a little extra to play the big thing that I just searched for. Especially good with Pestermite /Argothian Elder
My mates u/b zombie deck would also do well with it.
Mono colour control decks might be able to make use of this in non-EDH formats and perhaps mono agrro decks.
It almost has the potential to be another Cabal Coffers with a touch more versatility.

I know I'm bringing up a dead thread, but Epochalyptik, you were way off. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx (helped) won a Pro Tour.

This card really has shown to be a powerhouse, more so than I thought it would. I wasn't sure how much people would move over to mono-colored decks, especially after a Standard format that consisted of mostly two or three colors, but people saw how amazing Devotion could be, they flew to it and showed that it is more powerful than we thought. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a scary card when you know how to generate 7 mana on turn 2. That's insane.

I was wrong because I didn't expect mono-black or mono-blue to exist. Few people probably did. The most common monocolor deck is mono-red. It doesn't help that we were coming out of a 4+ color format.

To be honest, it's not that good that it deserves to have a similar price to Cavern of Souls or even plan ol' Temple Garden . It requires you to commit a lot to the table. Yeah, a hand with Forest , Elvish Mystic , Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , three Burning-Tree Emissary , and Garruk, Caller of Beasts /Giant Adephage /whatever 6 or 7 drop. But if they play Supreme Verdict or Anger of the Gods , you're done.
The card is unplayable in Modern, Legacy, and Vintage. There's also rumors that Born of the Gods will have hate cards for devotion. In other words, don't expect it to stay at $12.

I love the Burning-Tree Emissary / Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx synergy.
T1: Forest
, Elvish Mystic
T2: Burning-Tree Emissary
, Burning-Tree Emissary
, Burning-Tree Emissary
, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
, Stormbreath Dragon
- Swing for 4
T3: Monstrous the Stormbreath Dragon
(probably 4-6 damage from cards in hand), Swing for 13 including the Burning-Tree Emissary
's....
That's 13 + 4 + 4 to 6... 21-23 damage. - I've only pulled it off once so far.
I've also pulled off a T3 Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
with 2 Burning-Tree Emissary
in the opening hand, completely shutting down the control deck I was playing against.

Beyond standard and EDH, it won't see play. People would think it's interesting to use in their decks, but unless it's part of a combo like the one Rayenous mentioned, it won't be of any use to you till the game has already been decided if not close to already been decided. I mean, requiring a devotion of 4 to gain benefits or a devotion of 3 to become basic, just give me a basic land or a dual land any day.

i tried using Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in my mono blue deck, based on the theory that when my swarm of tokens attacks, and then Bident of Thassa nets me a bunch of draw, i can use the shrine to create a ton of mana and cast it all if i wanted to. actual use was me having to wait until turn 4 to cast Nightveil Specter , or tap the shrine and two island just to create 3 blue mana off say a Frostburn Weird and Cloudfin Raptor . i only had 2 of but somehow i got screwed by it multiple times. its out of the deck now.

Even so, It's still only at the 10-12 dollars it started at, so even with so many monocolored decks seeing play, the price hasn't exactly "skyrocketed."

I consider Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
a staple in EDH mono or two color.

Did you...did you REALLY just necrobump a thread to point out a spelling error?
JWiley129 says... #2
It is especially good for mono-colored decks (esp. Commander decks), but it does require you to have permanents of the appropriate colors in order to take advantage of it.
