OGW or MM15
Economics forum

I'm wanting to buy either a booster box of MM15 or 2 OGW. I like a lot of the cards in MM15 but I won't get as many cards, whereas I like some of the cards in OGW but have a chance at getting EXPEDITION lands and I will get some of the waste lands since this is the only set that will have them. I don't know which one is worth it more economically or for me not really wanting to get too much into competitive modern games.
Opinions? Advice?

Just buy the singles you want so you won't feel like you wasted your money when you don't open then in your boxes.

I second CastleSiege. Booster boxes are almost never worth their priest once opened. Use them to draft or play other limited formats, but don't buy them as an investment. You'd be much better off just buying cards you actually want.

I'd say neither. Go MM13 instead, because it's better value. or buy singles and trade goodies for stuff you can't buy.

aren't there lots of good cards in MM15 for commander? I'm also wanting trade fodder. Are there many good cards in OGW that would make good trade fodder or should i just go with MM15? And mm13 is too expensive to buy now.

Depends on what format you want trade fodder for. Standard, go OGW. You may even get lucky and pull a couple of the big money Eldrazi from the modern deck. If you're looking for non-standard trade fodder, definitely Modern Masters.

I've had my fair share of luck with MM15 so far... but I'm wanting to buy a box... The people I would trade with would be more prone to trade things from MM15 than from a standard set, since standard is so much more available. I also tend to just buy singles of the standard cards I want. I'm addicted to EDH and Modern Masters does seem to have a lot of cards that do spectacular things in that format.

Modern Masters. It's also the much better draft format.

-Orvos-,
For a statistically average box, you're better off with OGW.
Average value of a box, as I type this, per MTGstocks:
OGW: 109.47
MM15: 239.90
Average cost of a box, as I type this, per TCGplayer:
OGW: 100.00
MM15: 243.00

Estimated values don't include foils (as they are not usually guaranteed in packs). So with modern masters the est. value is off a little. Modern masters prices will not drop at rotation either, since you stated your friends would rather trade for old stuff, I'd do Modern Masters.

BUY SINGLES!!!!!!!!!! only buy boxes to draft or play sealed. Never crack a box just for fun.

I would say MM15. There were so many mis-packs that had a Goyf and a Foil Goyf in them, plus most of the cards in MM15 are worth a lot cough Karn Liberated cough. The expedition from a box of Oath is a good way to break even, as half of the expeditions from Oath are $40 or less.
MM15 FTW

@CheeseBro why? That makes no sense. Its more expensive to do it that way and id buy enough theyd have to crack a box to fill my order anyways.

MM15 for sure. Prices on those cards are going up, OGW prices are plummeting.

You probably would have better pulls for the $$$ with MM15. I would say pulling an expedition is like pulling a foil goyf out of mm15. If your not getting into modern then you should get some good trade fodder for whatever you need.
