Pack to Power Take #2
Economics forum

I was reading unforgiven_IIs thread and had a thought.
I was wondering if anyone would be open to doing a round table pack to power group exercise? Basically each person buys a pack of their choice within reason (no buying a Worldwake pack), names what card their end goal is and then we each keep an update log in a thread that I would create in the Economics section in order share our experiences (victories, poor choices, etc.) with each other and the rest of the community.... or we could just use this thread.

Well, considering I haven't gotten anywhere with my pack (yet), I guess I'll join. But I won't have updates too often, work is a bitch and ruins almost all chances of me getting to my store to trade with people.

I'd love to give this a try actually, sounds like a blast

As interesting as this is, I have bad luck with pulls, and can't do trades well. On top of this I rarely am trading, and the end process would be much easier for me to go buy the card =/ However I would enjoy reading what goes on with the participants :3

I might do it. I think I might pick up a pack at the prerelease this weekend.

Cool cool, anyone is welcome to join. I suppose there should be a general format for this sort of thing though.
It looks like it's nemesis101, Unforgivn_II and fluffybunnypants (hey, that's me!) to start off with. I myself really only get face to face contact with players on Fridays and maybe Saturdays, so I know I won't be updating too often, probably once or twice a week. I would like to perhaps update the thread with general ideas as to what I'm trying to accomplish and possible forecasting of cards I would like to trade into.
Each participant will list out the contents of his or her initial pack, say which expansion it's from, what the final card or cards they are looking to trade into are and list the prices of any big cards they get their hands on in the pack (no need to list prices for guildgates, etc.). After the initial listings, we can go over trades as they happen, I realize that posting updated lists every time you trade to bulk could be time consuming, so just listing changes in stock is probably the better idea. Personally, I am going to try to keep a external list in a word document or something to keep track of the progress I've made, sounds like a solid idea, right? This could take well over a year, I'm aware, but it certainly sounds like an interesting experience. it will probably be the most maddening $3 I've ever spent on Magic. I'll look to start this Friday.
Any suggestions? Anyone else want to join? Anyone have any bacon?

I personally think it would be better to relist everything each time.
- Readers don't need to go back to figure out everything that is still in your collection.
- It forces you to consciously consider each card each time.
It's also best to price every card because it gives you a better sense of where you stand and what direction you might want to take. Don't assume cards are worthless or useless because they aren't prominent - every card is a tool in P2P.

Both valid points. Perhaps listing out trades on the thread and then posting an updated list in a deck on the site would an easier solution or we're going to have single posts that take up the space of ten posts.

Hey, this sounds like a fun experience. I'd be interested in joining this, even if it could take me a week or so to get a pack.
September 17, 2013 7:47 p.m.
Well I won't be shooting too high, I'll be going up to the Cryptic Command I need for my commander deck. It'd be awesome, yet suck to open up a foil Griselbrand from an Avacyn Restored pack, which is probably the expansion I'm going for. The shops nearby are all out of Innistrad already lol.

Awesome GoldGhost012, no rush in getting the pack, this isn't going to be a one week and done sort of thing.
I'll plan to have some sort of condensed list of guidelines up for everyone tomorrow night.

I think I'll be aiming relatively high. Unforgivn_II said he was going for an Alpha Wrath initially, I'll probably aim for something like four decent quality Force of Will or something that's in the couple hundred dollar range.

I don't get the point of trying "Pack to Power" when you aren't aiming for a piece of Power.
September 17, 2013 8:08 p.m.
Doing something like this might be my best bet to get one of the last few cards I need to finish my EDH deck...which means I'd be aiming for an ABUR dual or Gaea's Cradle . Better than trying to buy them lol. I might be in.

I suppose I could go for a Power 9, but I'm certainly not going to tell people what they can and cannot aim for. It is their time and money.
As for a title, it's yet to be determined.

Maybe I'll try for a Jace, the Mind Sculptor . Maybe even a foil Worldwake one.
September 17, 2013 8:18 p.m.
Good goal GoldGhost012. Foil Worldwake might be hard to do if you don't trade online, there's a pretty small chance that someone in your area has a foil Worldwake Mind Sculptor.

Well, I imagine that I'd have to trade online for him anyway. In my playgroup, he's basically a god everyone wants just because. I wonder how they'd react to a Black Lotus ...
September 17, 2013 8:40 p.m.
Dude, if you trade up to a Black Lotus, that'd be INSANE.

GoldGhost012 says... #25
Well, it is called Pack to Power... and Black Lotus is a Power Nine...
But doesn't WotC have custody of all the remaining ones?

fluffybunnypants, maybe make the update log an article instead of a thread? That way more people would be able to see it for a longer time if it interests them.

fluffybunnypants says... #29
An article would be a good idea. I'm not sure necessarily how to do that, but it's a sound idea.
September 17, 2013 9:38 p.m.
I think you go to KrazyCaley to set up an article.

As far as trading for the "prize", I'm just hoping to sell the binder/collection for enough to buy it online. I doubt I'll find someone with an Alpha Wrath of God , let alone someone willing to trade. I will look, and if I find someone who has one around the time I have that value I'll inquire, but I'm not too hopeful.
September 18, 2013 12:02 a.m.
Just make sure you guys don't trade online, especially here. If every trader on tappedout tried to trade up in card value, nothing would get done.

Epochalyptik says... #33
It's not impossible to trade up through forums. It's just difficult. Also, you wouldn't be factoring in postage and other additional costs.
Trading in person is much easier and more straightforward. Take advantage of big events in your area - they are great opportunities to rotate your stock and get some great uptrades.

I decided that doing this as an article was the best idea. I'll probably look to write it up on Sundays to send to KrazyCaley later that same day or Monday since I'll do most of my trading on Friday or Saturday, which I think it's safe to assume other people will do as well.
For participants so far I have: fluffybunnypants (moi), acbooster, Unforgivn_II, GoldGhost012, nemesis101 and ljs54321. If you're still up for participating or want to join in, let me know by posting on my profile. I'll set up an email address that you can send info to regarding trades made so we don't overload the thread, please keep standard TappedOut formatting in mind (cards names in double brackets, double line breaks, etc.). If you plan to participate please let me know two things when you post on my profile: what booster you're starting with and what your end goal is.
The first article will most likely contain a list of participants, their goals, what was in their starting packs, thoughts each person has regarding the strength of their pack and any trades made.
Thanks!

Were I more active as a trader and player, I would participate. Given my current workload, I can only offer advice.
