Whenever planeswalkers are spoiled, like right now Kiora is 20 bucks on SCG and 25 on tcgplayer.

are planeswalkers pretty much always at the $20-25 mark when spoiled?

i was thinking about pre-ordering kiora, but I don't see it being 20 after it settles down. hopefully i don't kick myself for this later.

I don't mind paying $20- for a foil copy, which I can't pre-order right now. I wish I could, I really want a foil Kiora, playability be damned.

Planeswalkers are always spoiled crazy expensive, then immediately go down once the set drops.

I always notice the theme, as the Planeswalker is closer to release, it seems to spike in price because of Standard and things that get spoiled along the way. You've really got to gauge the playability of the card across a few formats in order to speculate if the card will get more or less expensive.

On the flip side, 20 dollars is a decent price for a Planeswalker if its mana cost is relatively low, or its abilities are useful. Worst case scenario you buy the Planeswalker for around 20 bucks, it does bad in Standard, and you lose 5-10 bucks, It seems as though everyone tries to make the newest Planeswalker work, so I assume no matter what it will stay a decent price, at least until it rotates out. Best case scenario, you get it for 20, it spikes to 45-50 or so. I feel as though the risk with Kiora is worth the reward.

most planeswalkers are pre-order at 20, some are higher some are lower, I remeber when JTMS was spoiled and i think it was SCG offered a free one if you ordered a world wake box or something like that. Now about Kiora the only issue I can see is her starting loyalty of 2, in a world where red decks are(and there are always red decks) i don't think her coming out on turn 4 is the best option(guess you'll have to ramp and hope for turn 3?) aside from that all of her abilities are pretty good I think we could see some G/U ramp decks coming out to try and support her, but until the rest of the set is spoiled I cannot really judge how effective it would be (I mean i guess simic is already around), but as of right now Blue seems to like to be on it's own or with white, or white and black, I know we'll see some cool deck ideas with Kiora I mean, Her +1 can help protect her, her -1 is good and her -5 is pretty awesome pumping out a 9/9 out every turn, but I'm not to sure how well she will perform in the long run, now if she instead cost 2 mana 1g/1u she would be bonkers. I guess we'll have to wait and see how she does.

It's not really worth speculating on what's going to happen until we see the rest of the BNG spoilers. We know that Simic doesn't have a presence in Standard right now, but we also don't know if anything in BNG will change that. We can certainly assume that plenty of people are already brewing with Kiora in existing shells, but the real testing will happen as most spoilers are released.

$20 isn't outrageous for a new planeswalker, though. Most usually go for $30-45 at prerelease hype rates.

I'm mainly talking about pre-order after they are spoiled. is if they are usually automatically put up for $20-25 mark for pre-orders after they are spoiled.

That's around the general preorder range for new planeswalkers.
