so ive noticed that the khans version of Polluted Delta is steadily increasing in price, currently it is $23.60 on pucatrade, which follows the trends of tcgplayer mid usually. anyways, what do you guys think they will balance out around?
thats what i figured. i just recently done a trade where i traded away 2x Snapcaster Mages and a mm2013 Tarmogoyf for things i needed and there was around $100 left in the trade so i got 3x Wooded Foothills and 3x Polluted Delta for pure trade fodder but its difficult trading them off knowing that they will only raise. lol

i done the trade only a week or so ago and all the fetches i got combined have increased a total of $18 so i may just hold onto them a bit longer lol

the price spike is a pretty easy thing to figure out.
1.) Mark Rosewater says that the Zendikar fetchlands won't be in BFZ
2.) Prices for the Zendikar fetches skyrocket as people attempt to beat the rush of people buying them. This causes Scalding Tarn to go back to it's Pre-Khans price of ~$80.
3.) People need fetchlands for their Modern decks for "good" mana.
4.) The Allied Fetches in Khans are the next best option for those decks.
5.) People begin to buy the Khans Fetches because they don't have the Zendikar fetches.
6.) Khans fetches increase in price.
This is only somewhat ignoring the fact that fetchlands are always in demand and used in every competitive format they are legal in.

Mark's comments are certainly part of the increase. But you also have to realize that Grixis is becoming increasingly popular in Modern (both Delver and Control varieties), and Polluted Delta is arguably the most important fetch for that deck. That's a big part of the price increase as well.

kmcree - Oh, no doubt. The Grixis deck really wants to run 3-4 of both Scalding Tarn and Polluted Delta. I'm not sure that Delta is more important than Tarn, but I could be convinced either way.

They're definitely both important, and we're really splitting hairs in terms of which is better. You probably run 4 of each with Taz. But if you're going to skimp on one or the other, I think / is probably more important to the deck than /. Add in the $80 price tag on Scalding Tarn, and you've got FNM players all over clamoring for Polluted Delta.

kmcree - Yeah, we're really splitting hairs at this point. We might as well be asking "Is it better to Thoughtseize or Lightning Bolt?" or "Would you rather play Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Young Pyromancer?" And at that point it's personal preference.

Regardless, getting back to the OP's question, Polluted Delta is definitely a card that will continue to increase in value.

it will rapidly drop during the brief moments the market becomes flooded with them as standard players drop them when the rotate, but yeah they'll climb to stay $10-15 behind their original printing.

Demarge, They will in no way rapidly drop when it rotates from standard. Among the standard players who are stupid enough to get rid of them when it cycles in a year, the rest will be snatched up by eager Modern and Legacy players. But I can only wonder what every fetchland would cost had Khans never happened... my God, the horror.

...but...
Khans actually never happened... Fate Reforged took care of that... the only thing that happened was Dragons.
:)

the drop may last only a week to a month, but it will happen, partially also due to the fact that the fetch land will also see a lower demand due to the standard players not wanting them so not only upping supply but also lowering demand, if rotation also happens when the modern season is off delta could be an $8 card instead of $14 during this dip.
August 10, 2015 1:42 p.m.
Everybody said the same thing with Shocks, and they dipped maybe a dollar or 2. Standard players aren't stupid. They aren't just going to dump all their fetches. Don't count on a substantial drop.
August 10, 2015 1:48 p.m.
I couldn't see a dip like that happening. These cards are and have always been sought after.
August 10, 2015 5:05 p.m.
i see the dip happening, its close comarison to shocks, its taken them almost 2 years to really start to move, you forget how many players are actually casual or standard players only, and how many copies of khans fetches are actually been printed. the demand is much higher than the demand for shock lands since theyre legacy playable as well, while shocks are much less seen.
part of this price increase is that 2nd year of the cycle, soon fetches will be out of print, just like every other land cycle, its being opened less in its 2nd year and will go up.
kmcree says... #2
It will only go up. Fetch lands are pretty much required in all eternal formats, and blue ones are especially valuable. I'd say it'll end up between $40 and $60 within the next 3-4 years.
