Prerelease purchases

In lieu of the upcoming prerelease this weekend, what do you guys recommend to buy while there? Should I get any of the Theros decks? Which ones? Would I be better off buying singles and/or packs?

The benefit to getting packs is everything is over-hyped at prerelease, so you can probably trade some of the Gods or some such for some eternal value if you have some Modern players there or something.

The downside to singles is everything is over-hyped at prerelease, so they'll charge an arm-and-a-leg for the good ones.

It really just depends on how badly you need the singles you want I suppose. If it's just buying for kicks I'd say sealed product.

Well, the decks represented by Green and Black foils have Bow of Nylea and Whip of Erebos , respectively. I know the Blue one has a Curse of the Swine , as well. And Red and White have Polis Crusher and Gift of Immortality , respectively. so, if you're looking to get any of those, check it out. Here are the full decklists.

The pre-release happens before the product is commercially available, so you shouldn't be able to purchase any of the Intro Decks, fat packs, or booster packs.

I believe Intro Decks are available for purchase at the pre-release, but I do not believe anything else containing boosters is available.

I won't worry about the Intro Decks, if anything wait until boosters are available and buy a box if you haven't already pre-ordered one.

The sealed product is enough, really. Unless you can get your hands on an early box, then reap the benefits of Hype.

Raithe000 and others are correct regarding sale availability.

At this point I would only make pre-orders on cards that are extremely under-valued and you expect to go up (like what Boros Reckoner did the first few weeks of Gatecrash).

I'm not sure I really see any card that will be doing that since Thoughtseize is so obvious.

I would briefly consider trading for shrines in colors I want to play since they will be played -- regardless of their relative mediocrity.
