Price Post stf Rotation
Economics forum

I am not looking to score a profit or to invest in magic for economic reasons. I have been a player for only about 6 months and I don't see myself leaving standard format for a long while. So I hesitate to sometimes buy the expensive cards giving their limited life. However if the card has a shelf life post rotation either cause I can trade them back for some cash or because one day they are good enough to fit in a possible future modern deck I don't mind so much.
So will the cards below stay valuable even post rotation?
Siege Rhino, Monastery Swiftspear, Monastery Mentor, Thunderbreak Regent, Hangarback Walker,
Also, of note, rotation will be at the beginning of October when Battle for Zendikar is released. At that time Theros, Born of the Gods, Journey into Nyx, and M15 will be rotating out of Standard. That will leave Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins, and Battle for Zendikar as the Standard legal sets. So none of the cards you have mentioned are rotating soon. They will all be legal for at least another year.

Interesting that Thunderbreak Regent which is a card I value highly is seemingly coming of the worst of the lot. Yip A year or more is a long time and yet I would still hesitate to drop cash on Dragonlord Atarka at 11 dollars each if I could never use it again after a year.

Well, there's always Commander to make use of cards that you like from Standard! (Albeit only 1 of each)

Hangarback Walker just came out. There's a little hype around it, but we have the time to wait and see if it's good or not in other formats.

Some people will try Hangarback Walker in Affinity, either just for sng's, or as a budget replacement for Arcbound Ravager, but I'm not sure if it will be that good there. I can't really see it being played in any other Modern deck, and I really doubt it will make any impact on Legacy.

abenz419: KTK and FRF will rotate in spring 2016, so a little less than a year before rotation on cards from those sets.

yeah I was thinking it would be about this time next year that BFZ2 would be coming out (in place of the core sets), but now that you mention spring I remember reading that before.

Siege Rhino, Monastery Swiftspear, and Monastery Mentor all see Modern play, and some (Mentor, Swiftspear) even make a splash in Legacy. The Thunderbreak Regent and Hangarback Walker don't as of yet, but the Walker hasn't been out very long, and will be in standard for a while so if you have plans to use it I'm sure you'll get a lot of use from it.
