So i will get right to the point. Do cards like Elvish Mystic as a promo retain any value after rotation? I mean it is about 5 dollars right now so my question is how much do fnm promos usually drop after standard rotation. Thanks.

It all just depends on if the card is playable in other formats. Don't forget that EDH players love foils and promos.

For a card like this, though, it's a tough call. It's a carbon copy of Llanowar Elves , which already has its own promo IIRC. It'll probably be a dollar or two, maaaayyybe sitting up closer to $4.

But my gut tells me you should get rid of it now unless you have more sentimental value for it.

Because it's a promo; that's why.

You both realize there's something like 3-5 Llanowar Elves promos, no?

The reason I think something like Llanowar Elves retains its value is nostalgia, in all reality. The original is still the best. I call them "Lawnmower Elves" each time I play them in my modern deck, because I have been playing since...well since forever. Just like I call Prodigal Sorcerer "Tiny Tim", a throwback to "Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail". But anyways, yeah, that is probably why.

There have been some nice promos recently, but I genuinely prefer the standard print of Elvish Mystic . It just captures the essence of what the card does well. Wesley Burt did a god job on it though I think his other works have been a bit lackluster compared to some of the talent employed by WotC.
