Reaper of the Wilds Speculation

Does anyone believe that Reaper of the Wilds will jump in value anytime soon? Or perhaps after the next rotation, sort of like Desecration Demon ?
It's very difficult to remove from the battlefield, as in there are 2 cards that do it with ease: Supreme Verdict and Merciless Eviction . All the others are subject to hexproof fizzle or simply don't do enough to warrant use (i.e. Mizzium Mortars ).
All of its abilities are relevant too, especially the scry in a green/black setup.
I think he meant that it may go up after Ravnica cycles like how Desecration Demon has gone up after Theros rotated in. I don't know if it will or not. I love the card personally, but it's hard to predict.

It's a good card but I doubt it will ever seen a substantial amount of play. Not enough to make the price jump too much at least.

If the next set has more cards that work like Flamespeaker Adept 's "Whenever you scry..." ability, then I could see it getting more play.
Aside from that, the other abilities, and it's sub-optimal P/T won't make it a powerful choice.
GB midrange wants a slightly higher aggression output for 4CMC, and the fact that the Hexproof requires you to leave mana open makes it weaken the rest of your plays/options.
The costs associated with it's abilities scream "control-combo", but the usability of it's abilities scream "aggro"... it reality, it currently fits neither.

Hold onto them for at least a year. I held two play sets of desecration demon and I saw the jump coming months ago.
Reaper will be a late bloomer, but it will be awesome when it does.

@gnarlicide Yeah I currently have 2 playsets I'm going to hold on to because I'm a believer in the card.
@Rayenous I'm curious why you think the P/T are sub-optimal. 4/5 is very difficult to deal with. I do agree that it isn't aggressive enough though.

I love the card, but when I see it in mirror-matches, if they drop that thing turn 4, my turn 5 move is to Putrefy or Hero's Downfall that sucker. I don't want to deal with it after that.

I think it's a great card. I have it in my Morglen Enchantment build that I'm passively working on, and I feel like it's pretty underrated. I dunno if it will jump up in price, though.

I love the card too but I don't think it's going to become much more expensive than it is now. Up to three or four pounds maybe?

@djd2488 - Note there's a difference between "sub-par", and "sub-optimal".
4/5 for 4CMC is okay... it's about on par.
However, when you are playing in a format that also has Desecration Demon , Alms Beast , the 5 Gods, Polukranos, World Eater , Deadbridge Goliath , Loxodon Smiter , Boon Satyr ... etc... Well, there's just better options for P/T.
As such, the only reason to use it is if it's abilities make it worth it... and in my previous post, I explain why the abilities just don't quite cut it.

well i think Reaper of the Wilds is currently waiting on some kind of enchantment with a trigger like when deals combat damage does....something
currently while it does stick when landed, it still is missing something.

atm im trying out Reaper of the Wilds im my bug control deck(i dont have D Demons) but im surprised at how good it works.
with the removal we play we get a free scry. when it lands it alot harder to removed then the demon and it will practically always go unblocked since ppl are realy weary of blocking a 4/5 dt+hex.
But i am wondering how this card would work in a +1/+1 counter build with stuff like Corpsejack Menace and Bred for the Hunt for carddraw.

I agree that in a properly build deck (ie Golgari/Jund control), it's basically a free scry every turn. However, the current Standard is seeing a lot of flat out aggro and the like, so it seems to have limited uses.

Card is ass. I run Kalonian Hydra instead.
Along with Ooze, Troll, and Demon. The hydra can come in and double the board the turn it attacks with my already hard to deal with self-pump creatures. Well the reaper slows down the game and lets u attack 4 for. HHHmmm tough choices.

Mono black splash green it's going to be the sideboard or maybe even mainboard backup plan for enchantment hate against Underworld Connections and against regular creature hate from control because you can keep a bit of mana open and eat targeted removal all day and scry, which against control probably makes it better than Desecration Demon against control also. But I don't think that will be enough to make it super valuable. Monoblack splash green is most likely very niche, though it does make some metagame sense.

Merciless Eviction is a great sweeper. It doesn't care about Boros Charm or Rootborn Defenses . Unfortunatelly, it doesn't have that miracle cost like Terminus did.

Currently there's not much synergy to go with Reaper of the Wilds
(in or out of standard) so I don't think we will see the price increase happening anytime soon. It's a great card and a great draft pick. Even worth putting into a cube.
However, until the next few sets hit the table I'm not sure if this guy will go anywhere.
Happy Hunting!

I think the card is great in tandem WITH Desecration Demon . Whenever another creature dies, Scry 1.This helps smooth out draws in the mid to late game. I think it's a sleeper that will take off.
Here's my BUG list that I'm working on that uses Reaper of the Wilds I NEED to obtain another Desecration Demon to replace one of my sphinx's, but it's a nice deck so far.

The card is pointless outside of standard and possibly EDH currently. Post rotation it won't be played, I'm sure of that.

I agree it is too slot for outside of standard, but it was just released in standard and has value. I think it will see $3 eventually and not the under $1 it currently has

Comepetes with Desecration Demon for the spot in GB midrange, so i doubt it. But they'll probably see a little play, so maybe a bit.
