Relentless Rats Spending Spree

Hi everybody! My friend thought it would be hilarious if I built a Commander deck that was tribal rats using Relentless Rats. I thought that would be great too, with Marrow-Gnawer as the commander, so I looked up the price for these Rats at my local game store. They're 50 cents a pop.
For $20 (which seems too high for me) I could get 40 Relentless Rats. Is it worth it?
All versions of Relentless Rats go for at least $1.50 each. So if your going to use them, go for it.

I would personally suggest Balthor the Defiled as a commander with Marrow-Gnawer in the 99. Few things are more demoralizing than fending off a huge wave of rats only to have all of them come back. But yes, I would strongly suggest it if you can get them for $0.50 a pop.

With Balthor the Defiled as the commander those rats would be relentless.

If you really want to go for it, I would say absolutely.
You might want more than just forty relentless rats though - more like 45-50.

I believe you need 39 rats in order to ensure success with a Thrumming Stone.

A friend of mine uses Damia as his commander for the BUG colors. then uses things like Concordant Crossroads to give them haste, (and forgive me here cause cards names are eluding me right now), an enchantment that lets him cast anything with a CMC of 3 or less for free and at instant speed, and this other card that allows him to draw cards whenever a creature enters the battlefield with the same name as another creature in play. Basically the deck is rats, with those enablers and ways to find those enablers and its not uncommon for him to spew his whole deck full of rats onto the board and kill several people in one combat. He basically uses Damia, Sage of Stone because of the colors and she's also the easiest way to draw lots of rats when your hand is low.

I'd totally be all over buying that for 50 cents each. You could easily E-Bay them off or trade them at a large event later for 3 times what you paid for. That's an easy $40+ profit.

Thanks everybody, for your answers. I think I'll go for it, seeing how they usually sell for way more elsewhere. I also think I'll use Balthor the Defiled. Thx for the advice.

$.50 each is a very good price! I just bought 35 of them in December for ~$1.50 each to complete my Marrow-Gnawer EDH deck. It's super fun to play, just make sure you throw in plenty of tutors (Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Tutor, Beseech the Queen, Cruel Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, etc) to get Thrumming Stone out quickly.
I'd also recommend Thornbite Staff as a way to get infinite rats with Marrow-Gnawer. Skullclamp is also very good in this deck.
Have fun with it!

I mean, if you don't mind dropping the $20 then go for it. It's not like this is an investment or anything, so if you want a casual deck to play when you're bored then it's worth it. If you'll play the deck once and be bored, then you probably shouldn't buy it.
