Why is it that Scalding Tarn is so much more expensive than the other fetch lands? It up at around $55 at the moment, whereas Marsh Flats is only $35. And is Scalding Tarn going to stay at this price? If not, will it go up or down?

It's so much higher because Island .

It will probably retain or rise, with a slight drop when modern season finishes or if they ever reprint the fetchlands.

All blue fetches (Scalding Tarn , Misty Rainforest , Polluted Delta , and Flooded Strand ) are going to cost more than their non-blue counterparts because of Legacy, Vintage, and EDH, where blue is the strongest color. Not only are they in demand for Modern because of decks like Splinter Twin , they're also in demand for eternal formats so they can be played in decks like Stoneblade or Grixis Control.

Bc island is the perfect reason, misty and scaldinh will stay there pending reprints, specifically scaldimg bc of uwr delver, sneak and show, and splinter twin,

Verdant Catacombs is also on the way up bc of of all the varieties of jund and junk amd deathblade

I know why you ask this question TitansFTW :)

Fetchlands will only go down in price if they are reprinted, and for all of the speculation about fetchlands being reprinted soon, there is not much solid proof that that is going to happen.

I'm going to be that Conspiracy Theorist guy now, so if you don't want a journey down this rabbit hole, stop reading now...

Remember when a foil Jace, the Mind Sculptor bumped up to $800 a few months before From the Vaults: 20? Just a few months... Now it's at $600, similar to where it was. Still expensive, but that's $200 difference all the same.

Fetch lands seem as if they recently upped in price a bit, seems like I checked a month ago or so and Scalding Tarn was about $50 on SCG, and now it's $60.

Granted, that's not a $200 difference like Jace, BUT it's still constantly rising, and WotC's mission statement involves making modern more accessible to players. Land is pretty important, and fetches aren't extremely accessible.

I have no solid ground to base this statement off of, as Krayhaft stated, but, I smell a reprint.

The price rising doesn't necessarily mean that a reprint for a card is coming. WotC has stated that they would like to make modern more accessible for players, and a fetch land reprint will come in the future, whether functional or direct reprint.

However, the price rising only means that the value of the card to players is rising. This is because with the increasing popularity of modern, staples for the format are going to be in higher demand, particularly fetchlands. It does not necessarily mean that we are going to get a reprint.

I guess that's where the Conspiracy part of my idea works out;

Star City raised the price one Jace and on Fetches, I'm gonna go crazy and say that they have inside information and are adjusting prices accordingly for profit.

Again, no solid foundation for this theory, I just find the Jace incedent WAY to coincidental, and I wanna be able to say that I called the next one, haha.

Funny thing is 2 months ago u could pick up a Marsh Flats for 24$, so the 35$ price tag is quite a bit of increase.

Everything is rising because modern season is approaching.
