Shock Land Value post RTR Rotation

I know that the next Rotation is a year away but I want to know if the price for shock will jump after it rotates or will it fall or will it slowly increase.

It won't jump. If anything, it will fall a bit as Standard players release more copies into the market. It would be a mistake, however, to assume that they will flood the market; many players will hang onto their copies.

They will probably fall a bit but go up some as they see continued play in modern and eternal formats.

I myself am collecting playsets of all of them, specifically because they can be used in other formats.

Ok, and because I like to collect things.

They will go up in like a few years after RTR is not heavily played anymore.

@jonhydude: The value of the shock lands has nothing to do with how heavily or lightly played RTR is as a set. Nothing is analyzed as a set outside of Standard.

It will fall first before seeing a slow rise post rotation. I'm looking the RTR/GTC shocks to be around $15-18 eventually.

@Epochalyptik Sorry, I meant after it stops getting printed. Also, the old Ravnica shocks went up in price over the years, so why shouldn't these ones?

The RTR/GTC shocks will definitely be lower than their original counterparts. I agree with xxDSJJxx on this with saying that they'll probably stabilize at a higher price than they are now, though I expect closer to $15.

They won't fall by much post-rotation. Most people I know are holding on to them, because they're pretty sure they'll be reprinted in standard again at some point.

Wizards have stated, at least I'm sure I remembered them doing so, that they want shocklands to increase in price to roughly the same level they were at before. Which would imply that they won't be seeing a reprint.

Even so, I wouldn't expect their value to fall my much, they are used in literally every multicolour deck in every format. Except pauper. Once they are out of print, there price was being a slow and steady upwards climb, maybe with a bit of fluctuation after they rotate.

How would that imply that they won't be seeing a reprint?

i cant speak globaly, but at least at my LGS (90-110 FNM) most players play modern or EDH as well as standard and there aren't really any 'extra' shocks available.

So i would agree an eventual price point of 12-16 is not unrealistic as the market shouldnt be flooded post rotation.

@SharuumNyan If they were to print them for a third time there price would be half what they are now, and probably never climb back up. Laws of supply and demand my friend.

It also depends on how long it is before they reprint them

They deliberately gave them non-Ravnican names so they could use them elsewhere. Their only reprint has been back in Ravnica, but that in no way means they won't ever be reprinted. After all, I'd expect their value to eventually climb -higher- than the old ones if they never see a reprint.

I think they won't be reprinted for a good 5 or 6 years, but I wouldn't assume the current supply is it forever.
