Should I open my FTV:20?

I have a sealed box of FTV:20 up for trade. However, since I'm in the UK, P&P to the USA is expensive and it seems people would rather just trade for the individual cards. Should I open the pack and trade cards individually instead?

USE THE JACE!!

I would love to "USE THE JACE!!", but I don't play Legacy and don't think I'm going to start any time soon. That's not really an option for me.

As I understand it holding sealed FTV's to sell later is a very long term investment. That said, I believe JTMS is losing popularity in Legacy due to TNN wrecking it.

If you can find the right deal and don't want to wait a very long time (especially depending at the price point at which you purchased it), then it isn't a terrible idea to crack it. The real issue is that a number of the cards in FTV:20 are just garbage anyway (Char).

I know a few people who regret buying their FTV20 and are now trying to sell it. None of them are selling, and most of the stores around here seem to have one for sale behind the counter too.

I'd just crack it, especially if you play EDH.

I opened mine because most of the cards are decent for EDH, and I really, REALLY wanted to play my JTMS. Sometimes fun trumps $$$.

I didn't actually buy it, I won it, so relative value isn't really an issue. I might just crack it open if the opportunity to trade presents itself. As has been pointed out, the value of it keeps dropping, so it may be best to try and ditch the cards sooner rather than later.

Oh, and I don't play EDH either. No playgroup in the local area.

Make one. EDH is the best.

Yeah, EDH groups are easy to get started. If you build a few decks and let your friends play them, they'll be wanting to build their own in no time! It's also a great format for people who used to play years ago to get back into the game.

We did try to make a play group - we bought a set of C13 decks to use - and tried to get a game in every week at lunch time at school, but that didn't really work out. Our LGS is moving location to right next to out school soon though, so hopefully we'll be able to have a game between leaving school on a Friday and FNM starting. However, for the sake of fairness, I don't think I'll be adding Jace or Hymn to Tourach to any of those decks any time soon.

I'm glad I read all the comments cuz the first thing I was gonna say was, 'why you buy it if you don't play any of the relevant formats' Legacy, EDH. The fact that you Won the FTV:20 makes much more sense.

As far as what you should do with it, it sounds like unless you have a trader who wants at least the JTMS for starters, there's no reason to open it for the sake of physically holding the cards in your hands, do you even have decks you could slide any of those cards into, if there is any inherent value in the unopened FTV:20, it will be lost the second you open it, assuming there is no gain to the opening, such as the aforementioned JTMS trade for starters, he could net you like 2 Misty Rainforest on a good day to the right trader, but if that kind of deal isn't on the table, what's the point of opening it?

FTR, Hymn to Tourach is underwhelming in EDH.

gufymike I did not know that. I will bear that in mind if ever I decide to build an EDH deck.

@TitansFTW targeted discard and single targeted removal ( such as Murder ) are inherently weak in multiplayer formats, as you use a card to put one opponent at a disadvantage, leaving the other 2-3 players in a better position than both of you. Its one of the reasons why wraths have become characteristic of EDH, it hits everyone. As far as discard goes, every "good" (cant really think of a better word) EDH deck should have draw engines to quickly recover from discard, especially with effective colorless draw (such as Mind's Eye or Memory Jar ).

However, Swords to Plowshares , Thran Dynamo , Fact or Fiction , Akroma's Vengeance , Gilded Lotus , Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni , and Green Sun's Zenith are all awesome EDH cards.

I really want a Venser, Shaper Savant for a blink deck I'm building right now.

SharuumNyan Now I see why you're encouraging me to open the box. You want my Venser. Very sly.

Jokes aside, it is for trade if you want it.
