Any death & taxes players vouching for this? Modern hatebears? I feel like it's going to spike for eternal play, any thoughts? I'd value Epochalyptik's advice on this one since I might plan on picking up large amounts anticipating a spike.

At the prerelease I had death and taxes players drooling for the foil one I pulled. Hope they spike

Thalia is only $4 on SCG and she's quite a bit better. Spirit of the Labyrinth will see legacy play and possibly modern but it still won't be a particularly expensive card. It might spike at $10 if it sees some standard play but i will probably settle at $3-$4 in the long run.

I expect the price within the next few weeks to rise slightly with release week demand, then fall back down a bit as players figure out how playable/unplayable it is in various applications.

Plenty of Standard players are going to overuse it as an answer Sphinx's Revelation . Spirit of the Labyrinth seems like more of a sideboard card, and an optional one at that.

Modern players could side it for the storm matchup because this effect wrecks any cantrip-dependent deck. Spirit of the Labyrinth also helps counteract Electrolyze and Cryptic Command (well, it forces a different mode on the latter). I don't know if it's too risky, though. It's a 3/1 frame, which means it's not optimal for combat if you want to keep the ability, and it dies to literally every burn spell or split-damage effect you can name. Granted, that's not a jarring weakness in a format with Lightning Bolt and Path to Exile as the top-tier removal spells, but still. Also, it doesn't beat Dark Confidant , which is a pretty important weakness.

I don't know enough about Legacy to make predictions as far as that format is concerned.

It's probably strongest in Legacy and Vintage. Death and Taxes is a much stronger deck in Legacy than anywhere else, which is the obvious home for Spirit of the Labyrinth . The deck already plays AEther Vial , so it only needs to cut a creature to make room.

It will probably take the spot of Phyrexian Revoker , whose main purpose is to stop Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Liliana of the Veil . Spirit of the Labyrinth not only hits Jace, the Mind Sculptor pretty hard coming off of an AEther Vial , he's also a better main deck card against ANT (which Phyrexian Revoker stops only Lion's Eye Diamond ). Not to mention, it gets awkward naming Stoneforge Mystic or Umezawa's Jitte vs. Stoneblade, considering D&Ts plays those cards itself.

In short, Spirit of the Labyrinth hits more than Phyrexian Revoker and is much more versatile. I suspect we'll see Phyrexian Revoker more in the sideboard from here on out.

However, I don't think it's as important of a card as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , who's Queen of the Hatebears. That in mind, Spirit of the Labyrinth won't see Thalia, Guardian of Thraben 's price, who can fit into more archetypes and decks.
