Why is Storm Crow so expensive?

Seems obvious to me. Just sayin'.

You dare question why the almighty Storm Crow is so valuable??? Heathen!.

AwesomeName says... #4

The prices displayed are not in any way expensive. Many would fork over much more money for such an all powerful card. Seriously, putting your opponent on a 21 turn clock is no joke. That is plain broken.

It + Phenax, God of Deception puts your opponent on anywhere from a 30- to a 50-turn clock. That's god power right there.

This thread is blasphemy. Tar and feather!

To actually answer your question.

Storm Crow has become a cultural icon for MTG. It's a pop culture idea. It's the equivalent to "WHAT ARE THOOOOSEEE!?" or making fun of Donald Trump.

People like Storm Crow because Storm Crow. That's the only explanation.

So that price? Completely driven by the community and it's long lasting joke. It has no real competitive or collectible value.

Now watch as I get verbally sacrificed by thee whom worship our lord and savior Storm Crow for my blasphemous speech.

January 28, 2016 2:48 p.m.

For further clarification, people used to run Storm Crow so they could have a free pitch to Force of Will that didn't actually set them back anything important. Thus the joke that it's the most powerful card in Magic.

Ruffigan says... #10

Do you want the price to go down? Haven't you heard about Storm Crow descending?

January 28, 2016 2:52 p.m.

Lmao!

canterlotguardian Haven't been playing nearly long enough to know that tidbit. Interesting.

No one actually used to run Storm Crow + Force. It was a joke that Force made any blue card, even something as bad as Storm Crow, the best card in magic.

And foil is expensive because it was only available as foil in 3 sets (7th, 8th, and 9th).

January 28, 2016 3:40 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #15

meecht - that's a lot of sets...

It's expensive (if not for the pop culture) because hunting down a foil card from a set a decade old or older is pretty difficult. Not to mention there was arguably less people playing MTG in 2005. Meaning less packs opened. Meaning less foils in visible existence.

January 28, 2016 4:08 p.m.

Ah. Well I stand corrected. omnipotato :P

mazrimtaim says... #17

ok that makes sense thanks

January 28, 2016 5:25 p.m.

It's the cheapest it has been in a loooooong time

Last summer they were going for $200 a pop

The short explanation is that storm crow is a inside joke among the magic community, and the extremely limited supply of foil storm crows (7th and 8th edition had far fewer foils) meant that it was easy to buy them all, sell, relist them for $200, sell one to yourself to make the last buylist price look like it was valuable, and watch as people resented you for controlling all the foil storm crows

Naw man, you're fine, we love picking on people like this. BTW another classic ULTRA POWERFUL CARD is Chimney Imp for future reference.

Ruffigan says... #24

The legend of Storm Crow exists, I believe, because Urza refers to himself as a storm crow (an ill omen, harbinger of storms) so the joke is that, because Urza is the most powerful planeswalker, Storm Crow is thus the most powerful creature.

January 28, 2016 8:22 p.m.

Yeah but let's be real here.

A Wood Elemental backed up by a Sorrow's Path is just an unbeatable board presence
