Stormbreath Dragon Speculation

Stormbreath Dragon is still sitting at about $12, I'm wondering what I should do with them. They seem to see at least a little play in Modern, but I'd hate for them to be like a 1 or 2 dollar rare when I could have dumped them for profit before they dropped. Any thoughts on how there price may fluctuate? I've got a pair of them that I do use frequently and would probably continue to use if I kept them, but if I can profit off of them now and get them back cheap later that would be nice. All speculation obviously, but curious what the community thought is on them.
They'll drop to around 2 or 3 after rotation. Thundermaw Hellkite is better in almost all competitive decks that could want some, although maybe Casual might want them more. But if Casual players aren't driving the price of Thragtusk up past 2, they probably won't do the same for Stormbreath.

I don't know about its time in standard currently but after Dragons of Tarkir comes out for a while all theros related cards will start to drop and considering Thundermaw Hellkite only sees fringe play in modern and is considered better than Stormbreath this will likely be worth less than five if only because its a dragon. :3

Yeah I always held him and Thundermaw Hellkite close together. And I would figure most decks would prefer Thundermaw.

Could we expect a price spike at any point or just a consistent decline from here on in?

It will be a decline. It might go up a little when Fate Reforged comes out, but at the same time it could also drop. Depends on what dragons and dragon tribal cards are in the next set.

or it could depend on if the majority of dragons end up in the third set. If that's the case, it'll probably stay close to where it is now as it sees play in Jeskai decks, Mardu decks, Mono- red decks, etc. so it sees quite a bit of play as it is. Then when Dragons of Tarkir comes out (if that ends up being the set we see lots of dragons) it could see a price spike for a short time if a dragons matter deck becomes relevant. Once we start to near rotation though it will drop. At best it's a $5 card, because a 4/4 hasty flyer with pro white isn't bad in EDH, but will most likely be in the $1-$3 range once it's out of standard.

The deck that wants to use Thundermaw Hellkite is U/W/R variants. Typically, he was used in conjunction with Restoration Angel, Snapcaster Mage, and Vendilion Clique. The other deck is Jund, that occasionally plays Thundermaw Hellkite as a finisher, usually as a one-of.
That all changed when Keranos, God of Storms was printed. He's a MUCH stronger card in U/R/x. Thundermaw Hellkite is still good, but more niche.
I don't see Stormbreath Dragon seeing play over Thundermaw Hellkite or Keranos, God of Storms. With that being said, probably a $3 mythic once it rotates because it has the word "dragon" on it.

It will be 25% of what it is now. And if you have any foil Stormbreath you should trade them ASAP. To me :D

Thundermaw Hellkite is a perfect example of what you should expect. $50.00 in standard, 5 dollars post rotation. The scale is speculative, but relatively accurate.
