How is Swan Song only sitting at $1.69 right now? Sure it's not heavily played in Standard, but it seems like a staple for any combo deck in Modern. Why so cheap?

Think it's a smart move to start collecting them?

I wouldn't collect the regular ones, but collecting foils might be worth it. The foil version is super pretty, and a lot of people will want them for EDH and/or modern, which could drive up price. I'd say its unlikely the non-foil version will jump much though.

a lot of the new common rares are dirt cheap but have high foil value, 5-10x the non foil value, Ashen Rider
Swan Song
Prophet of Kruphix
if you can get your hands on the foils i definitely would

The thing about Swan Song is it helps the midrange and aggro decks put you on an even faster clock. You deal with the problem spell and that's great but now there's a different threat you have to answer, and if you use a Lightning Bolt or something similar you've given them a 2 for 1 trade.
Ideally you'll combo off before it will matter, but you can't rely on that. I'm not saying Swan Song isn't good, but I don't know if I would expect it to spike from modern combo.

@EvenDryke - That's why you don't play Swan Song in Combo/Control decks. Like Pain Seer and Rapid Hybridization , it does something Control decks like to do but in creature-based decks.
It's a hard card to find a place for, but when you find a place or build-around it, it is very powerful.

Because it's still in print currently, and is a frequently pulled rare. Sure, it has eternal value for the Modern format, but Modern season is only just now starting, and pretty much everyone that needs them already has a playset. They'll go up over time, but it'll take a while.
