I'm being offered a Emrakul, the Aeons Torn - FOIL Windswept Heath and a FOIL Flooded Strand (both KOT) for my FOIL Scalding Tarn. I know the KOT Foils will hold value and increase eventually but so might the Tarn. I'm also not very familiar with the Eldrazi card's, are they keepers? They're awesome beasts but with a super high CMC how are they even useable?? Anyway, yay or nay?

Emrakul is very popular in legacy (in sneak and show and 12post) not to mention he is very popular among casual players. Since I have owned him he has gone from 25 up to 60. It is also unlikely that he will be printed again

Is it the promo foil of emrakul?

I wouldn't do it.

...maybe for a foil non-promo Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

Don't do it. The Foil Tarn just has too much value going forward. It's just too hard to find as well.

Do it, Tarn will be reprinted soonish and will lose like half it's value

You have more to lose in the long run holding on to the Tarn vs anything that you are getting.

For things that are unsure in pricing (for example, ZEN fetches which we could see as soon as Dragons of Tarkir), I like to try and split up the value into more sure cards. All of the cards you mentioned above are only liable to go up- Emrakul will never, ever see a reprint other than limited-run products. The KTK fetches can only go up from here. Tarn could steadily increase or take a massive hit, or take a small hit. Putting all that value into 3 pretty sure cards means you lose a little bit of hard tradebait value, however you're less likely to lose oodles of cash in the long run. If one of them tanks you still have some good money.

If you value the old style border I would just keep the Tarn. The Zen fetches are very, very likely to show up in the next set but with the new borders, I know people will complain etc. If I had a foil Tarn I would sell or trade it for everything I was looking for. However, any foil fetchland, even when reprinted, won't lose much value because well, it's foil and people love to pimp.

I say go for it. You're getting two foil fetches for one. We could see the reprint and while the foil KTK fetches are not nearly as valuable now, give it a few years and they will be just as expensive as the rest of them (give or take depending on which decks are top tier)

The ONE single downside to this I see is you're giving up the best of the fetches. Legacy Delver uses Tarns, Modern uses Tarns for DAYS, and its just always going to be the most sought after fetch.

This is exceptionally easy as a trade (That is, unless you need your Tarn for a deck).

He's offering you about 1.50 for every $1 of trade value you're giving up.The cards he's giving you are likely to rise in price, while the one you're giving him will drop in price (and then rise again, but you can re-acquire it when it drops).

This is value city.

Well things changed over night. The guy I got the foil tarn from a couple weeks ago wants it back. After I told him what I was planning on trading it for he offered a regular Emrakul, the Aeons Torn a FOIL Flooded Strand a FOIL Bloodstained Mire and a regular Garruk, Apex Predator. I think his deal is a lot better considering the last two foils I need are the strand and mire and could use the garruk. I have to think the KOT foil fetches have nowhere to go but up and with Zendikar fetches facing a reprint a tarn won't be too hard to snag. I think I'm going for the new deal.

And by the way, thanks for the input folks. You all assured me of what I was assuming but having taken a 13 year break from mtg I'm still learning some of the good "new" cards.

DarkHero says... #15

Yea I'd absolutely do that, either trade. I'm not sure why they are valuing Scalding Tarn so far ahead of the other fetches to the point that they give two others on top of some nice filler, but unless I'm missing something it's a steal. It does matter whether its promo emerakul or not. the promo is a little less valuable.

vance3 says... #16

I guess I'm not sure if it's the promo but he said it's non foil and I assume the promo is foil?

Where are you finding these people giving you these amazing offers...

And yes, the promo is foil.

Facebook trading pages! I've traded standard into eternal cards (usually 1 good foil for 5-10 standard cards) quite a few times in the past couple months. I traded about 20 lower value cards for the tarn now it's going back to the original owner after 2 weeks, I think I'm making out pretty good.

Here's an update on the trade for anyone that cares. I received the package today and the FOIL Bloodstained Mire - Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Garruk, Apex Predator were all there but the main card i wanted, the FOIL Flooded Strand was not sent. I messaged the guy pretty pissed off as you can imagine and he claims the foil strand was damaged while he was packaging it (yeah right) and he will send me a different one when he gets it in the mail. I'm pretty sure what really happened was he made the trade with me before he had the card in his possession and after 3 days pass that he hadn't sent me tracking info he decided to make up this story about how it was damaged. This is after he lied about shipping dates not only on this trade but a prior trade we made and both times had received my cards before he even shipped.

I'm not sure if there's a feedback section here but if he doesn't make right and send me the foil strand, or my foil scalding tarn back I'll be plastering the appropriate feedback for him anywhere I can so nobody else falls victim to this shady ass guy.

BTW this trade was on a different mtg trade page, I don't think he's a member here but I can't say for sure.

Bummer to hear that. Most of the trades on here have worked out. The community is pretty good and most new people don't mind sending first.

vance3 says... #22

He's not new to the mtg world at all and now I've found out I'm not the first person that was missing expensive cards in their packages, but everyone I've talked to said the cards did eventually show up but sometimes it took up to a month and three different packages. Hopefully all is resolved and I get to finish my foil fetch land set if the strand arrives.
