Teferi Price

What do you guys think will happen to the price of Teferi, Hero of Dominaria in the coming months, and where do you think his price will ultimately settle? A couple factors I have been thinking about include:
1.) How much will rotating out of Standard affect its price?
2.) Is there a chance it will be printed in a challenger deck, and if it is, how much will its price go down?
3.) Will potential walker support/hate in War of the Spark cheapen or raise his price?
I have a copy in near mint condition and I am trying to decide if I should hold it or trade it (I would trade it for a Rings of Brighthearth ).

Hey, if you play Commander than trade Teferi for Rings in a heartbeat because Rings is a staple competitive card in Commander. Rings is only going to go up since it has never been reprinted and Wizards new strategy for reprints doesn't look good for cards like Rings. Teferi is only expensive price because it's the best Walker in Standard. Once it rotates from Standard it's price will plummet.
I think you are correct that Teferi may be reprinted in one of the Challenger decks because the last ones that were made, one had Chandra, Torch of Defiance in them. At that time Chandra was the best Walker in Standard and $40. This mimics what's happening with Teferi currently in Standard. Chandra is now only a $12 card.
Having a mythic rare Walker in a $30 supplemental product was new at that time and a crazy good selling point for these Challenger decks. My guess/hope is Wizards will again take advantage of this with Teferi and/or Vivien.

sell or trade immediately. its value will start to drop even before it actually rotates out of standard. people won't want to buy it when they know it only has a few months of standard life left. if teferi is in one of the challenger decks, its value will drop like a rock. the challenger decks release april 12, and the decklists will likely be available at least 2 weeks prior. this gives you just a week and a half left to sell that walker.

If you want to know the price trend of Teferi, there is simple precedence - Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip's price curve should be the same as teferi.
I would trade/sell teferi as there is no way it is climbing higher. Well, there is one way - if they announce the challenger decks without a Teferi in them. But other than that, Teferi is trending downwards and will be at half price at rotation.

To the surprise of no-one, teferi was not reprinted in the challenger decks. So, expected a price spike.

even without teferi in a challenger deck, its price will definitely NOT go up. idk why anyone would think it would go up just because its not in a challenger deck. demand will go down as it gets closer to rotation, therefore its price will go down.

PlatinumOne I don’t know if you’re new around these parts but trying to apply logic to anything related to mtg finace is a waste of time. If people can find a way to make prices go up, they will go up. Period.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but what Boza said isn’t off either.

mymanpotsandpans: its not a waste of time. people can't just "find a way" to make a price go up. its simple supply and demand. as cards come near rotating out of standard, demand goes way down, and supply actually increases as standard players sell their stock to vendors. either one alone would cause a price drop, but especially both together. what boza said was definitely way off. in fact, the cards price has already started dropping.

Well, to argument that further - when cards are not reprinted when they are expected to be, they get pricier. Happens with every single exclusion of a staple from a masters set. And we are more than 6 months away from rotation and teferi is still the most powerful card in standard - it may not go up too much, but it is not trending down either.

short term definitely trade it, he likely won't rise in price too far from his current for a good year and it's likely he will go lower in price, the reason to hold onto him would be if you were looking to play control in modern. You're more likely to get soda spilled on it than find a better time to trade him for a year.
