I am bidding on a The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale at the moment. I wanted to know (based on condition), what would be a fair price max bid? Currently I'm at $700. I also wanted to get an idea of it's expected price in the future.

Assuming its the Legends version here is a link to its price history:

Personally, I wouldn't go over $975 on it as its price could drop and it's more of a card you need rather than sell in my opinion.

Star city is currently buying them at $900 NM on a buylist so if you could get it for less you guarantee you can make more money.

I did not know there was more than one. Yes, it is from legends. Thank you for the link by the way.

Why that price point (given the data you've shown me, it seems worth a lot more?)? Moreover, what factors you looking at that it could drop in price.

Hm, it isn't near meant. More like light play, moreso moderate play.

I believe The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale is on the Reserved List, so as long as...

  1. the number of players playing in formats where the card is legal is constant or increasing,

  2. the card remains unbanned in those formats,

  3. and the card retains its utility in those formats,

the price will likely continue to go up over time, not including changes caused by collectors using the card as an investment.

As for the card itself, there are various factors such as the card's condition, but I'm not the best at touching upon those.

Dark Depths is a scary card that I could unfortunately see being banned sometime in the future in legacy where Tabernacle sees a lot of play in lands, as such I attribute its rise from about $500 to its current price largely to its rarity and playable status in legacy.

The LP version sells buylist at $750 so its worth about a $1000, and the MP sells buylist at $600 so worth between $800-950.

My general rule of thumb with these type of cards is I want to make money if I chose to sell it, and if I really need the cash I would rather sell to a buylist because it is quick so I would try to stay at the $950-975 mark just to give yourself some breathing room.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure. Good to know.

EmblemMan (I always see your name pop up somewehere)

It is English, slight to moderate (more moderate play) from the Legends Set

Oloro_Magic

I'm sorry but I didn't understand a single word you said except the ending.

LP is light play or slight play basically if you were to sell to Starcity games, one of the largest magic stores, they would give you the price I mentioned, this is below regular value as they re-sell but is the easiest way to sell the card if you can't find a buyer or need cash quick. The same goes for MP or moderate play.

The Tabernacle is played almost exclusively in a Legacy deck called Lands that is built around a card called Dark Depths, this deck is very good and depending on the tournament is sometimes very dominant. There is a chance that Dark Depths could be banned if lands becomes more dominant and that would hurt the price of Tabernacle seeing how it is the only deck it realistically sees play in.

Hope that clears it up and sorry for the confusion.

I see! Thank you for explaining that. Funny because I actually wanted to buy a dark depths too! If there would be a ban, are there specific times Wizard would announce them (Ex: Quarterly, Semi-Annually, Annually, etc...)?

Ban announcements tend to be at release of each new set. Also, there is no real serious talk of Depths being banned yet just speculation on my part as depths is in the vein of cards that tend to get banned seing as it is simply an "I win" card especially with Mirage Mirrorand Solemnity now.

You'll see The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale in more than just lands. It finds a way into a lot of sideboards to punish aggro.

Dredge won't be able to produce enough mana to pay for zombie tokens. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale turns off Bridge from Below if they don't have a Flame-Kin Zealot.

Similarly, it also combines with Null Rod in Vintage to lock people out of the game, especially against Monastery Mentor + Gush-based strategies.

Basically, any deck that doesn't rely on creatures can jam The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale into their sideboards with little issues, on top of Lands being a good deck. It's a safe investment, even if they did ban things out of Lands.

Hell, even if they banned The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale in Legacy, it'd still be worth a fuck ton. Getting one for under $1k is a bargain, IMO.

Thank you for your input. I will keep that in mind when bidding if someone bids higher. I appreciate your input, especially with regards to other formats.

Update: I bought it for $1,000 because I got birthday money. Moreover, my friend is making a token deck, so this will DESTROY HIM and all the other people at the LGS who complain about how "powerful" my deck really is. Thank you for all your help everyone!

@Profet93: How's the overall condition of it now that you have it in person? $1,000 seems like a bargain. Pretty gozu IMO.

Profet93 says... #17

I'm not sure what Gozu means. The condition of the card was described as "good" by Card Kingdom. From the picture posted online, it looks like slight play/moderate play, leaning towards moderate. While I may have paid $50 more than I would have liked, it is still a card that I will forever cherish sylvannos

It's a Korean word meaning "exceptional" or "superior" that's turned into slang from people playing online games (mainly StarCraft).

Seems like you got a good deal! I know I'm jealous lol.

Interesting. I work in Koreatown in LA. I'm actually trying to learn a word in Korean each day, so that helps

Well it's resale won't be $1,000, hell Cardkingdom sold it to the guy I bought it from for $980 supposedly. But to be honest, I just want the card to play with and as long as it's in playable condition and I don't spend more than $1,000 on a piece of cardboard, I'm happy :)
