Thoughts on Bob?

I'm trying to pick up a few Dark Confidants, but I'm a little hesitant with Modern Masters 2 looming. Is Bob a safe bet to see a reprint? And will it affect his value?

Even a reprint won't lower his value by much. Maybe $10 - $15. I would be more afraid if he isn't reprinted. I can see him going up as much as $20 if he doesn't make the set.

I haven't been playing modern long so take what I say with a grain of salt. Seeing as MM2 is a limited run (while being promised to run longer than MM1), I think it's safe to buy a few. Even if Dark Confidant is reprinted in MM2, after the run, the prices are bound to go back up again. But honestly, it comes down to how much you invest in it via playing with it in tournaments/FMNs.

Again, grain of salt. Haven't been in the modern scene for that long, but I hope it helps.

That's kinda what I figure. He won't drop much, and it should only be temporarily. I'm also looking at getting original Ravnica ones, which should hold value better than reprints right?

The way I see it is if you want/need it buy it I think regardless of a MM2 reprinting it goes up since the first modern masters didn't do much for the price anyways. And with cruise being banned bob is gonna rise again since the best decks for the foreseeable future are going to involve some combo of Goyf, bob, lily, and siege rhino.

As everyone else is saying, the first modern masters set did little to the prices of a lot a of cards. If you're looking to buy a playset and want to save 40 dollars (10 dollars less for each), then I would probably wait a bit...at least for a good number of the spoilers to be spoiled before buying them.

The reality of limited print run sets is that they rarely drop a chase rare or mythic's price by a lot, and it bounds back fast. Not many sellers are willing to sell value cards for less that regular price, and the fear of losing money when they spring back to normal, or higher, plus the fact that format definers like bob are extremely well supported by speculation (except when banning season comes around), finally coupled with the fact that cards like bob or 'goyf are difficult to pick up via trading, necessitating purchase, all leads to prices going only one direction - up.

I would do the same, if I could justify the purchase.

Good idea. I guess we will see if you made the right move! If he isn't in MMA2, he could easily see $100.

Yeah, I ended up getting 4 for $225. So even if he drops $10 I'll be fine. And there seemed like too much upside to pass up.

MMA2 won't change his price. The only thing MMA1 gave to the players was cheaper deck staples(see Manamorphose, Lava Spike, and Kitchen Finks), cards such as Dark Confidant, Sword of Fire and Ice and V clique only went up. while this set will see a larger run, It will probably do the exact same thing; since it's going up to new phyrexia, that means cards like Mox Opal, Noble Hierarch and Fulminator Mage (all speculative rares obviously, none have been confirmed), will only go up, where as cards such as Inquisition of Kozilek, Vapor Snag, and Lightning Bolt (again, complete speculation on what will appear), will go down.

TL:DR I agree with buying now. Not a bob in sight at the PT certainly makes it a great time to buy. PT always make cards go up.

Honestly I'm surprised you got 4 that cheap. That's like 56 per bob he usually goes for 80

You should've mentioned you could get them at $55. That's a no brainer!
