So with the spoiler of Thoughtseize being reprinted came a wave of joy that I could not overcome. . until I realized it will probably only stablize the cost of the lorwyn copy. . .
So what are peoples' thoughts on the best way to get my playset?
-Buy packs/fatpacks/box
-pre-order singles
-wait until after pre-realease and such, then order single.
The problem I find is that it is already a known great card. hence the excited thread already here. . .

Well the good news is, Thoughtseize is a rare.In a booster box, I imagine it would show up in a box at least once, if not more. Which is 1/4 your box cost at least. Though wrong, I imagine some player would not know the value of a card like that. With that being said, happy trading!

Mono is going to be a thing. . Mono-Black is all great BUT have you seen the blue coming out of Theros?? Im going to hate dealing with mono-blue.
I need that New Elspeth though. . . found me a new win-con in U/W control :D

That's what is great about Theros! Mono colored decks are back, and probably not boring! Not to mention Budget standard, Thank Thassa!

That is exactly the problem, that it's already a known great card. It's different from Mutavault because the latter, while a known quantity, only really saw Modern or Legacy play in a few fringe decks like Merfolk. Thoughtseize is an auto-include in a lot of decks in both formats that run black. Now it's going to be an auto-include in a lot of black decks in Standard, too.
It's hard to know what the price will do. What it will not do is ever be low. You might be disappointed if you're hoping to only spend $20 on your little paper card. I'd say $30 is the minimum.
That's still better than buying a box if you're not looking for a lot of other things from the new set. There are 53 rares in Theros, and you can count on opening about 31-32 rares in a box. So likely you'd be looking at six boxes, and then you'd still not be guaranteed a set.

Ugh, there are a few NEED/ Want super bad cards in the set. Maybe box and then that will at least satisfy my addiction to opening packs then Ill just need to buy/trade for the playsets.
I really only have 3 Standard builds I am maintaining through the Meta rotation.
JUND control/aggro -(need me some sweet sweet Thoughtseize )
U/W control
G/R blitz/bloodrush

Bought my playset. Wish it had the old artwork, but whatever.
I could have grabbed some at 20$ each but only bought one. So today I quickly grabbed the rest at 23$ each. Well worth it.
I would advise any one interested in owning a play set of this to act quick. I imagine the price will continue to rise.

Its kind of a toss up, while I know it will never drop to Dragonshift prices, I think it will probably hang around 15-25. Sphinx's Revelation and Deathrite Shaman are both pretty big staples in their respective deck achitypes, so this being a re-print even, I think the price will drop once Theros releases and the number of Thoughtseize in the supply skyrockets. I'll order my box, maybe a fatpack for the box and then after that. . . trade my way to playsets for U/W and U/B. Once the panic rush of buying them slows it will be better'ish. I feel worse for modern players that just picked up a set for 30or40 each a couple weeks ago LOL

30 or 40 each? A couple weeks ago they were 65-70 each. That's what I got mine for, 15 days ago.
I honestly don't feel that bad about it. I'm going to be playing these cards. Getting them early ended up costing me a short-term premium, but it also means that I'll get to play them at two Modern tournaments that I'd have otherwise not been able to play them at. I have two Modern decks, and a set is in the main of one and the sideboard of the other.
I don't intend to get rid of them any time soon because they're good in so many decks in so many formats. So the ones that I got for $65 will be back up to that price again eventually, especially given the old art. I'm still pretty convinced that the old art ones won't drop much below $50 for long, and I can accept losing $60 in short-term value for the opportunity to use my set for an extra month.
On a related note, because tracking things like this is fun...TCG Player has then at $59 for the old and $25 for pre-orders on the new. SCG cut the old ones from $40 to $34 last night, despite being "out of stock" both before and after and in conjunction with a Premium article by Reid Duke published last night on the proper use of Thoughtseize . There's some price manipulation going on there.

SCG just temporarily dropped a bunch of prices for their Back To School sale. I don't think they singled out Thoughtseize .

Mutavault dropped to 20 dollars after being released, so I'd just get some of the newer ones, as they'll be cheaper, and since it's less splash able, there'll be less demand for it for standard players as mutavualt that can fit any colour, so standard demand will be lower than mutavault. I'd just wait for it to be released and buy it when either you're happy with the price or it drops to $20 or so.
