To what degree do articles/videos by mtgsites such as MTGGoldfish or Channel Fireball affect prices?

Recently I saw Metallurgic Summonings spike dramatically in price due to one of Seth (probably better known as SaffronOlive)'s Budget Magic videos. This is the most clear example I have ever seen a single person shift the prices on a card that dramatically (or even shift the meta). Have there been other instances like this and I haven't seen them because I haven't played long enough? Or was this simply an outlier?

On MTGStocks I also read an article regarding Intervention Pact spiking due to many different brewers (including Seth) advocating it + Madcap Experiment as a legitimate combo deck in modern.

TL;DR (it wasn't that long, seriously?) Many MTG Sites and SaffronOlive make some cards spike, is this a common occurence?

Thanks!

Budget Magic rarely moves paper prices.

That said, it ALWAYS moves MTGO prices. The price in tix is always about 10% higher 12 hours after the article goes up.

Travis Woo, before we found out he was a Nazi, would often brew with bad cards, presumably because channelfireball said "hey we have extra Disrupting Shoal inventory" and that's how ninja delver was born.

Interesting! I don't (currently) play MTGO, but interesting nonetheless.

Serendipitous_Hummingbird calling Travis Woo a nazi is immature and unnecessary. There is no reason to talk behind someones back and talk bad about them when you obviously do not know what happened and how it affected his life that people call him stupid shit like that.

In response to the post. I do not think articles affect cards prices that much. Thats not to say they never do but most of the time when they do its before release of a new set when people hype up certain cards. Is this an attempt to hype up prices by those who employ them? Who knows but I doubt articles affect prices as much as actual results.

Travis Woo is no nazi...

On topic, single articles rarely affect a cards price. A new card's value is often determined by hype and results. Articles can and will affect the hype. If mamy articles and videos mentions a pre release card to be good, it will drive up the price. When the meta is established, a lot more work needs to be done in order to affect the price of a card. Surely, it happens with cards like the Pact, but that combo wasn't made public only because of articles.

SaffronOlive is pretty much the only person who has a large financial impact on the markets (and the spikes are initially only MTGO, then sometimes paper corrects it). His core audience is definitely the more casual and budget conscious types who want to play fun decks. Many cards get featured then go up
