So Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is at $40 on starcity,do you think his price will rise or drop over time?

The place he is mostly likely to find a home, if any, is Modern in Urzatron or maybe, and this a big maybe, as a 1-of in some kind of control variant. But other than than he will not really be seeing any Eternal play.

The only deck he's good in outside of Standard is Mono-Blue Tron, and that's about it. Even in that deck, he's at most a 2-of. Remember when Nissa, Worldwaker and Garruk, Apex Predator were $40? Yeah about that...

He sees fringe modern play but standard plays him a lot more than I would have expected which is where his price tag is coming from.

I wondered where the price tag was coming from,I honestly assumed it was because of tron. Hell I'm running him in my G/R tron and he does great

And since no one has said it, don't go by Starcitygames prices, they are always overpriced. Go by TCGplayer.com.
As far as eternal play, the fact that he's eight mana instead of seven is a big downside as far as Tron (a tier 2 deck) is concerned. I don't think it will see play in modern control lists, it's just way too slow considering the "control" decks need to deal with fifteen different types of combo decks as well as Abzan.
And clearly, he isn't going into a legacy deck list. Realistically, he's gonna be at 25 dollars by the time Origins comes around.

Well the way I see it is G/R tron runs 4 karn, liberated which I found to be too many. Karn is easy to dig up with 3 copies especially with ancient stirrings so when I ran 4 I always had excess karn in my Han but with ugin you can have them both on the field and perform very different functions. If your only running karn and there are a ton of tokens on the field karn will die...fast,well ugin will get rid of them with his minus x. I personally think he is a great addition to tron,I mean even if he costs one mana above what all the tron lands produce its not a big deal to have an extra land out.

As long as Ugin remains in Standard, he should hold a $20+ pricetag. When he rotates I'm sure he will be used a bit in Tron like others have suggested. He might see EDH play as well but I'm really not sure.

EDH is an eternal format.... and he fits in every deck..... just saying

EDH is real. This guy is a bomb in all decks. He will continue to rise, and might drop back to 25-30 after rotation before rising again.

Edh though doesn't create massive prices. He'll slip.

On a few cards it does. This is one of those few.

Chromatic lantern is another one. Though not great in mono color decks, it's price rose through rotation. He will not fall below the 20 dollar mark, and I think he will stay higher then that through rotation.

For a good example of a card that is absolutely bonkers in EDH, look at Deadeye Navigator. It is the crutch of a lot of blue combo decks and is hard to kill for those not totally sure with the rules. Yet as I type this is a whopping $.86 TCG average. So just because something is a "staple" doesn't mean it necessarily will hold a high price. Now add in the planeswalker tax and now we might be talking.

You are talking a blue card. Ugin is colorless, and can be used in any deck. Also while good, many people do not play it because it is so broken.
Ugin at colorless adds things to colors that do not normally accomplish it, but he is good enough to be played in all colors. He is also a walker. People love those more. He is a mythic, and a dragon. It is one card that can really be supported by casual, EDH, and fringe play.

I am just saying that very few cards can hold a high price based on casual, EDH, and fringe play. This is one of the very few. Phyrexian Obliterator is another I think of, it is a little less fringe, but does not have all that other stuff going for it.
We can go back and forth, but really the way to see what will happen is to watch over the next year or so.

Yeah I think we will just hage to wait and see, either I'm glad I just pulled another x)

Disdained EDH is not an 'eternal' format. Cards don't rotate but it isn't eternal.
DeepDop I don't see him rising much higher at all than he is currently.
February 28, 2015 9:03 a.m.
Describe eternal then... Last I checked it means unending lasts forever... Edh decks don't rotate. And has enough steam and followers to continue to exist, and with LGS's doing edh fnms all points to edh being eternal... But if I'm wrong please explain
February 28, 2015 1:41 p.m.
Think of "eternal" as an official WotC word they use to describe Modern, Legacy and Vinate. EDH is not an official WotC format. They like it, they make stuff for it, but it's not official like Standard or Sealed or Legacy.

Do you think he will find a home in any eternal format?
