Unlimited/Revised Savannah

Hey all.

I'm in the market for a Savannah . For a long time now I've been wanting to pick one up for a few reasons, the biggest ones being that the card is ridiculous and that having one would make me feel awesome.

As far as I'm aware (and I could be wrong), Revised dual lands were white-bordered and Unlimited ones were black-bordered, leading to the difference in pricing.

My question, apart from wondering if the above is true, is whether or not I should go for the more expensive and I'm assuming black-bordered version of the card. I prefer the look of black borders but in the end the card has the same function. What of future pricings? Can one expect duals to go up more with their BB versions or about the same for both?

I just want to make sure I don't make a mistake and waste my money. Thanks.

Unlimited was also white bordered, the color was just more saturated (revised always looks washed out).

fluffybunnypants: Oh wow I had no idea. I guess this is why it's best to ask, huh?

Another question, if you don't mind my asking: Is it worth it to buy MP instead of NM when it comes to cards on the reserve list? I don't have a TON of money and, once again, the card does the same thing. Should I fear it becoming worthless when buying it at MP? Is buying something so expensive as MP safe?

unlimited also had a differnt border type before the white edge. the difference in price is due to unlimited was printed less, and less of them are in circulation that are not messed up...beta is black bordered, but again price jump due to even less circulation...

It's dangerous to make assumptions about MP cards. I would aim for SP if you're on a budget. The problem is some MP cards will start to leave marks on your sleeves in the exact places they're worn. For example, a slightly creased card will leave a crease or dirt line on the sleeve along the crease. There's also the potential that an MP card, depending on who has rated it, will not be sleeve-playable (although this is rare).

If you're in the market for duals, SP Revised (and sometimes MP, depending on your disposition) is the best balance between cost effectiveness and quality assurance.

I did some more research and was just about to mention getting a SP Revised, but you beating me to it secures my thoughts Epochalyptik. Thanks!

I find that MP versions of older cards are usually safe to buy, most sellers have a chart that shows what they consider to be in each quality category and MP is usually slight feathering of the edges and minor scratches. I bought a MP revised Demonic Tutor and I am very satisfied with how good of shape it is in. All qualities of ABUR duals should only go up and if you aren't ocd about minor scratching or feathering I would buy the MP ones. I would beware of buying from SCG though as they seem to consider moderately played to include some things I would call straight up damaged.

Thanks for the help Gidgetimer. I almost exclusively buy through TCGplayer for cost purposes. I found a guy selling an SP unlimited Savannah for 95. That seems quite good when you consider the MPs are around the same price, which leads me to believe it might be too good to be true.

I'll have to figure out whether or not to go for the SP unlimited or SP revised. buying MP seems like a huge risk to me when the difference in price on that site is very slim, you know?

Yeah, if there is less than a 10% difference between SP and MP the MP usually isn't worth the risk but I have been nothing but satisfied with cards I find on TCGPlayer in MP condition. But I'm the kind of person who isn't concerned about nicks or border wear, as long as there is no creasing or ink/food marks.

I've purchased all my duals through ChannelFireball.com, and I have been very satisfied with the conditions of the cards. I buy MP every time, and every card has been up to snuff.

ChannelFireball and SCG also have reputations to maintain; they're more likely to send you an SP card for MP price if there's sufficient doubt in the grading. This is somewhat counteracted by their slightly higher base prices.
