I've always been a trade cards I have for cards I need or cards I can trade for cards that I need kind of guy rather than a trade for cards I think are going to spike in price at some point kind of guy. Lately though I've been becoming increasingly torn between viewing the game as an investor and a trader wanting to hold onto cards that are going up in value rather than trade them away. That being said at what point do you trade/sale cards that are only going to continue to rise in value?

I trade for stuff I need 1st then I trade for speculation cards what I think will see play outside of standard and continue to rise in price. Like Brimaz sees a little bit out of standard so he might be an investment but who knows so it's pretty much dump whats good in standard while its high and trade for things that are low that could potentially be good

@mmdw34 I actually don't play standard. I'm thinking more along the lines of modern and edh staples that just keep rising in value.

At the point youre happy with profits. I bought 6 griselbrand for $120. Easily I see the going up over the years, but buylisted for 26 each, so j was happy with $36 profit (I had also flipped full art bolts and foil delvers from same purchase) netting ~100 in one week, I was okay with that so I could buy new specs (currently buying zen land under 75c each and getting $1+ each

@mckin Buddy of mine made a killing on Zen islands, bought a thousand for a hundred dollars when they were standard and just sold them at a dollar a piece. He doesn't do a lot of mtg investment but when he does he tends to really knock it out of the park

i know right away i can flip them for at least the extra 25c so its quick easy pick ups, just bought over 300 at 75c each. but wanted to expand, things like Abrupt Decay im holding till at least like $15+ and RTR boxes ill probably hold for a year and then see where theyre at

Yeah I'm gonna pick up a play set of Abrupt Decay right after rotation and I'm to addicted to opening packs to hold boxes like that.

id pick them up sooner rather than later, the price on them has been on the incline while other rtr cards continue to drop, they might drop a bit post rotation, but by that point it might just be dropping to where its at now anyway

@mckin It's still far from it's peak value and I think post rotation I look for it to be around 6 dollars
