Does anybody know what happened here? It was a bulk rare when it rotated out 6 months ago... now it's over $6...
I can't remember it suddenly seeing play in Modern, and surely all the EDH players who like big Dragons already knew about it?

A lot of the dragons went up in price after Dragons of Tarkir was released. Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund doubled in price, I believe.

It makes me happy that I built my Scion EDH deck when I did

I'll echo that sentiment. I picked up Scion as an afterthought because he seemed like a interesting bulk rare. I must have paid $2-$3 for him, and now he's going for over $10?!

WOTC knew what they were doing when they released DTK. It's why you had to buy certain dragons ahead of time, in fear of the price skyrocketing after DTK's release. Some of the non-standard dragon have come back down to Earth, but most are still relatively high; especially Scion of the Ur-Dragon which is $17.77 avg on mtgstocks.com as of today. It will probably not change much until the release of Magic Origins and Battle for Zendikar.

hellkite was never a bulk mythic, when he rotated out 9months ago he was like $4 on scg and $2-3 on tcg, he was good even before all the dragons if you played Kaalia of the Vast

Blame Dragons of Tarkir and the hype around Scion of the Ur-Dragon commander decks.
