Westvale Abbey & Thalia's Lieutenant

Are they modern playable?

Or only standard?

Should I trade them out?

I'd say both are Modern playable.

While Humans doesn't put up a lot of results, it's a capable deck for smaller, local tournaments. There's also Allies, which is almost completely humans. As more and more cards get printed, Thalia's Lieutenant will only become more viable as more humans are added to the game.

Westvale Abbey  Flip isn't terrible either--especially in a deck like Soul Sisters or Tokens, since it can protect them from losing to Wrath of God. It's also being used as an alternate win condition in decks that want manlands, but don't want a land to come into play tapped and don't want Mutavault.

All that being said, both cards are only fringe playable at the moment. I'd trade them away now while Standard rides the hype train, then buy them back at a later date when you need them or when they rotate.

As for Thalia's Lieutenant see Champion of the Parish for reference.

For reference, some guy did well at a Modern GP running Mono-White Humans, but its (Lieutenant) value is mainly generated from standard.

So far nothing plays Abbey in Modern.
