What is up with theros pricing?

I searched up a few cards on amazon that i thought would be huge money cards. Fleecemane Lion is 7$. Anger of the Gods is a few bucks. Those are what i thought would be nearly the biggest money cards in the set! Opinions on that pricing?

Damn. I knew I would regret not buying shocks now...

There are so many shock-lands in rotation, though, and the Scry lands don't interact with the shock-lands (like the Core Set/Innistrad duals did). I can't imagine the shock-lands will rise that much, honestly.

detentionsphere - that's entirely possible. Let's just hope it stabilizes somewhere reasonable.

You don't think GW can find better things to do with 7 mana than a 4/4 hexproof indestructible?

September 20, 2013 5:05 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #5

that's just it though zandl, the Scry lands DON'T interact with the Shocklands, therefore they are the ONLY fast dual lands in Standard right now, as we lost all of our checklands, if you are wanting to play dual colors, they are your only fast fixing for aggro decks and the like. So they will see rise in price.

"You don't think GW can find better things to do with 7 mana than a 4/4 hexproof indestructible?"

Again, with the words-in-mouth-putting?

It's a Watchwolf with an extra ability. OH MY GOD 5 mana when you have nothing better to do is REALLY BAD GUYZ.

And I see what you're getting at, ShadowLand, with the shock-lands and check-lands. But I only see them raising by a few dollars, tops.

And most of them are $10-$14 now, so my statement isn't untrue :)

Hey, those few bucks make it that much harder for players who are unemployed and/or minors (coughcoughGoldGhost012cough) to afford them.

@zandl I think the issue is that if you have 5 mana and nothing to do with it, you didn't build your deck very well.

@Devonin: Yeah, because you never find yourself in any "draw-go" situations. <_<

The thing is that NO ONE ever said Fleecemane Lion was bad. I have been the one arguing against him and "he isn't good" was never the argument. The argument is that he isn't as good as some people think. Mainly the OP and anyone else who thinks that at $8 his price is low.

For my money $8 is too much for a 50 cent card that has an ability slapped on him. I like the ability and I realize that we can't always spend mana as we please. But if you have nothing out that warrants using removal on it more, and the best move you can make with 5 mana is pumping him I will gladly remove him.

If turning a 3/3 vanilla into a 4/4 Indestructible Hexproof for 5 mana at instant-speed is bad, then I have no clue what's good.

I really expect fleecemane lion to be the 'surprise' money card of this set. it's hard to overstate just how good watchwolf is, period -- all the upsides are gravy. He'll go in both GW aggro and any Naya or Junk midrange decks that get built in the next two years.

If aetherling had the option of being played as a 3/3 on turn 2, he'd be worth $10.

Are you forgetting about bant decks? He could fit into auras (maybe), bant flash or control, and lots of stuff. Prophet of Kruphix just makes him better, as he can be flashed inat end of turn, then monstroused during your turn.

@JWiley129

Putting all of those enchantments on any card would be scary in a match.

Also, once he's hexproof, you can't put those enchantments on him. You'd have to do that prior to him becoming hexproof.

But truthfully, I can see him dropping dramatically in price. He's not a BAD card, but I don't really see anything gamebreaking here. Sure, for now he can be indestructible, but there's going to a lot of stuff that's indestructible in Theros. So people are going to start building their decks accordingly to deal with this mechanic.

@ TrollNtrample

Uh, that's Shroud you're thinking of there, bud. Hexproof just makes it so your opponents can't target the creature.

So I have some Fleecemane Lion s I would like to sell for $8 each, I hear it's a great deal. Any takers?

December 8, 2013 8:12 a.m.

Dalektable says... #20

Gidgetimer That was speculated price when the set first came out, Fleecemane Lion is only a two dollar card...

December 8, 2013 8:33 a.m.

Gidgetimer says... #21

Oh, I really wish someone would have had the good sense to say that the speculated price was a bit high since it is a good card but not $8 worth of good. Maybe if someone would have said it would be between $3-4 by December just like the mid price on TCG player is now $3.75 people would have considered their point and not just mindlessly parroted "its a good card why are you say its bad?", when they were just saying its good, just not that good.

gufymike says... #22

Reason it's not an 8$ card is g/w isn't seeing high level results in the majority of events. Naya control is having problems with being consistent. Personally I thought g/w aggro would be played more. It is a strong deck but dies out quick if it's slowed in anyway.
