What to do with my collection?

I am going on a deployment in soon and will not see America for like 10 months to a year. I know a lot of prices are going to fluctuate and do crazy stuff by then. Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to sell off most of my trade binder before I leave?

Honestly I would keep a hold of it, while some may drop, if it's older stuff, chances are it can be even higher next year due to scarcity issues

Hold onto it, you have eternal staples.

julianjmoss is right. The format that the cards are mostly legal for will determine the possible market for the cards. If mostly Standard-legal (Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash, Dragon's Maze, and M14), then chances are the cards will lose value between now and the time you return due to rotation in mid-September. If your cards are older formats, then chances are the values will stay steady, or possibly even rise.

It all depends on markets, decks that run hot and cold, etc. No one can honestly predict the future, but we can give you the best advice we can. And, as someone who has family who has served, and is still serving, in our Armed Forces, thank you for your service.

I suggest keeping them for two reasons.

First, armed forces actually account for a rather significant portion of the Magic player base, and you may find that you still have opportunities to play while at base.

Second, eternal cards will probably appreciate in value. Get rid of your Standard value and your fetches, but keep the rest. Even if you decide to quit, the extra value will be a boon.

Make some pauper decks, and you might find someone to play with during some down time.

Epochalyptik get rid of fetches?

No. Bad idea to get rid of fetches. If anything they will keep rising or stay the same.

@ Epochalyptik Expecting a fetch reprint in M15 or Huey?

I think with regards to fetches, it depends on how long you are stepping away from the game. I would absolutely expect a fetch reprint in the next year or 2.

@Avernar: I predict they're at their peak. People are losing interest in paying $100 for them, and they've actually dipped slightly.

@Korombos: Definitely not in M15. Probably not in Huey. I sense they're coming in the next 5 years, though.

Well I am going to be gone to the world for an entire year. Thats a lot of time for the game and prices to change.
