Just curious what cards everyone is currently targeting. Does not matter for what format. Right now I am targeting Narset, Enlightened Master,Monastery Swiftspear,Siege Rhino, and Bounding Krasis in foils.

That as well as Aegis of the Gods are two really nice white Theros Block picks.

I thought I heard feedback that Anger of the Gods could be a possible target

Brimaz, King of Oreskos, although, I can wait a long time if he doesn't drop like I suspect he might. My proxy for him is cute enough to be an alter (pic of my cat) and the deck I want him for is just a nostalgia legacy deck that probably isn't even competitive at all - and I know of 0 people who play legacy or who would care that it's a proxy.

But still ... if he goes under5, I should scoop him up on principle.

August 24, 2015 8:52 p.m.

I feel like Brimaz would only drop a couple dollars after rotation. Just to rise back to ten dollars. He does see a decent amount of play in Death and Taxes in Modern and Legacy.

I'm holding onto my piledriver for the long run. Im positive after a few years I'll see a small profit.

At any rate, he has already dropped significantly from when I first took interest in him so the wait will have been worth it.

I don't for sure know what he will dip down to at rotation but it will probably be the low dip for him and the time to casually pick him up.

HolyFalcon says... #10

I mean, a Brimaz for 5$ sounds like a snap deal, so if he drops that low I'll be grabbing at least one.

guessling says... #11

I suspect he will dip briefly when he rotates out and maybe <5 is a low estimate on the minimum, but 6,7,8 ... something like that wouldn't even be terrible at all.

Thoughtseize, Abrupt Decay, Gitaxian Probe, Polluted Delta, Birds of Paradise, all the Praetors... yeah I've been gathering these cards in playsets for a while now. All have proven to be great targets because of their heavy use.

Hm. I could do another spec video, if you guys would like. I did one on Theros rotation a little while back. The short of it is:

(All the gods. Picking them up for a buck apiece is a steal, as they are very popular in casual edh play. Even the not-so-great ones! I could easily see them going upwards of 8-10 bucks mostly, which is a great turn of profit for a 1 dollar investment.)

(note that most of the planeswalkers will probably see a dip and then some rise. They mostly have great casual appeal, like Ajani, Mentor of Heroes.)

Journey to Nyx:

Eidolon of the Great Revel, Keranos, God of Storms (he is specifically one of the two gods that are playable in a competitive format), Godsend.

Born of the Gods:

Spirit of the Labyrinth, Brimaz, King of Oreskos

Theros:

Thoughtseize, (duh.) Anger of the Gods, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, Bow of Nylea, Thassa, God of the Sea, Master of Waves, Sylvan Caryatid

M15:

Chord of Calling, Ob Nixilis, Unshackled, Hushwing Gryff, Sliver Hivelord, Perilous Vault, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Waste Not (the community never really got their created card to work quite right in standard, but it's potential makes it a solid pick at it's current and soon-to-be low cost.) Genesis Hydra (it's inclusion as a pack promo limits how much it can be a bit, but it's got the nuts to make it.)

And... that's it. There are other decent cards that I didn't mention, but those are the ones I'd keep an eye out on. If you see em' in people's binders come rotation, don't hesitate too much to snap em' up!

There was an article on mtggoldfish where the guy talked about how he picks up a playset of each mythic rare from each rotating set. It seemed like a pretty good idea, really.

There are a couple of Standard-playable staples that might be distant contenders for Modern.

Searing Blood

Stoke the Flames

maybe even Devouring Light for tokens?

Drown in Sorrow

Gainsay (I mean, it's really not a bad card)

Bile Blight

As a serious question and as someone whos starting to get into this side of magic, can someone explain why they are picking up these certain cards? I mean I realize they could rise in the next weeks/months/years but I am just curious why you are making the choices behind each pick?

Anyways, thanks in advance for any advice!

amccarn-Certain cards that could or already are seeing modern, legacy, or vintage play (aka eternal formats) over time will just about always increase in price after their print run. This is due to people still wanting the cards and no more new cards being printed and added to the market. Its a simple supply/demand scenario. There is also because over time you have people losing cards due to certain factors such as water damage, fires, simply getting thrown away, or bent/damaged and so on, so less and less copies become available which drives the price of the cards up. This is why reprints of cards are so important, it could help out the more casual/everyday player get their hands on certain normally out of their price range or availability by reprinting and offering in new packs. So we as speculators try to see what cards are already being played in these formats as regulars in decks and also which ones might become playable in the future and might not have that high of a reprint chance.

I have a friend that's targeting Hidden Dragonslayers. What does everyone think of Mantis Rider? I like to follow Pucatrade's most traded cards for cards to spec on as a resource. I also think Ghostfire Blade is a good one if there's more support for Eldrazi once more BFZ is released.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth will probably be a solid investment over the next 2-3 years considering where it's at now and it's popularity in so many formats.

Everybody has really great picks. Recently started picking up Thopter Spy Network as well as Windswept Heath
