I was just bumming around researching for a new EDH deck and noticed that the price for Food Chain has shot up like $11 since I bought one for $4 like 4 months ago.
What did I miss? Why the sudden spike?

It also makes infinite mana with Misthollow Griffin , pretty sure there's a random ass legacy deck that pops up very rarely.

It's because there was a rumor that birthing pod might get band so this is like the next best thing. I disagree and want to be the first to say this is much worse.

Actually it doesn't go infinite with Prossh because generals cost two more to cast every time they die. So it isn't that reason given.

It does go infinite with Prossh, Skyraider of Kher because of the tokens he generates, which increase in number every time you cast him.

It does go infinite with proshh because you can exile two of the tokens he makes to get that extra two mana.

Oh I C token cmc 0 +1 clever. He dosnt have haste though so you'd need bombardment or Burn at the stake or hammer ,ferver or something like that.

Purphoros, God of the Forge with those tokens would make for a fast GG. He's a creature while he's in your hand, so you could cast him with Food Chain mana.

You could also have Altar of the Brood , although that depends on whether your play group has Eldrazi Titans/Big Robot Dudes to prevent mill. Something like Ogre Battledriver could be fun too, then you can swing with all your kobolds. You could also run creatures with an X in their cost and cast them for a crapload, or feed Thromok the Insatiable a stupid amount of food.

The Food Chain + Misthollow Griffin combo is a thing in Legacy. It's an effective and somewhat budget deck that does quite well.

My best guess would have been C13 coming out (because the card goes infinite with Prossh), but that expansion was out for five months before the sudden price spike.
