I'm looking to start the Pack to Power quest and was hoping some one could help with this as I could only find information about booster boxes

You could go to Starcity Games, Face to Face Games(CDN Prices), or TCG Player. Look up the different sets, then sort by price high-low and decide from there. Of the top of my head SOI has Nahiri and Avacyn pretty high up there, Origins still has Jace, Zendikar/Oath has expeditions, Khans/Fates has Fetches and Ugin, Ravnica/RTR has the lands that are decently priced... Most popular at my LGS seems to be Ravnica block and Modern Masters from my observations, and whatever new set comes out obviously. A caveat though, if you are looking for specific cards its always better to buy it from a vendor than gamble with packs (as fun as it may be). Anyway, hope it helps.

I'd go with a pack of modern or eternal masters to give myself a head start. If you must use standard, battle, oath, or shadows are all fine choices

DevoidMage, personally, I wouldn't open BFZ. None of the rares hold great value.

Worth considering that DTK has Atarka's Command, Kolaghan's Command and Collected Company. Someone else will have to do the math on whether that makes it worth it.

Well I did a little research using MTGgoldfish and here are my findings:
Shadow of Innistrad - 14 rare/mythic under a dollar
Battle for Zendikar - 11 rare/mythic under a dollar
Oath of the Gatewatch - 12 under a dollar
Magic Origins - 13 under a dollar
Dragons of Tarkir - 7 Under a dollar plus 10 uncommons worth over 50 cent
with that said I will probably use Dragons since the prices are the some stable in Standard right now and best chances of starting with a good pack to begin my journey.
Thanks everyone for the help provided

This is more for a question in economics or standard help forums or something. The Q&A is for rules or card interaction questions.
That being said, unfortunately, I do not have sufficient knowledge on prices or probabilities on cards in standard to give a good answer. My guess would probably be Shadows over Innistrad.
