Is this just a blowback from MUD trying to make it's way into modern or something? I bought my Phyrexian Obliterator foils for 20$ each. Now the non-foil version is running 30$ a pop.

mono-black and mono-green devotion has made their way into modern. Their results are yet to be consistent to be a real deal, but as of the latest event, they're strong; likewise any cards seen in the decklist will increase in price as demands increases.

its definitely THE 4 drop that mono black needs.

Personal opinion, that cards worth 30$ gameplay wise.

Its funny because ive been trying to make a Legacy worthy Mono Black Zombie that can recur Gray Merchant of Asphodel multiple ways and cast him way sooner with Dark Ritual and phyrexian obliterator has a key role in the curve and devotion base and now if I want to build it i'm gonna be coming outta pocket even more now. Damn I wish I would have got them last month.

Obliterator is an insane card anyways. Mono black is gaining popularity in Modern and as a 4 of, it's key to the deck. If Mono black can show consistency and Top8 or possibly win, the card ceiling will rise even more. Wouldn't be surprised to see it over $40. This is the deck I'm currently playtesting Death, Destruction and Despair!

Just an FYI this article explains Phyrexian Obliterator rose in price. It is worth following week to week and even daily to see the fluctuation in card prices. It uses tcg prices for it's reporting.

Its a card that sees no play that is under SUPER speculation right now. If a deck does come through then it will spike more but it may just be a dud

Wow, glad i got my playset when they were $18 apiece. I run them in a casual black devotion using Gary.

Devotion. That's what's up. Some players are beginning to experiment with Mono-B Devotion in Modern, and so up goes Obliterator. However, my prediction is that Obliterator's price will drop back down soon enough as I can't see Devotion really working in Modern. Chroma is a very similar (and by that I mean practically identical) mechanic to Devotion and that saw almost no play in top-tier decks, if any. Theros hasn't really added many huge black Devotion cards, so I can't see it heavily influencing the meta.

The various devotion cards are almost universally better than the Chroma ones though.

True, but a lot of Devotion decks are too easy to rip apart. Kill off the Obliterators and the Liliana of the Veil s and the rest of your cards are sub-par in Modern and only being played due to their Devotion count. Control in almost any form ruins Devotion. I can't see it getting very far.

lol the rise of Devotion decks trying to run things like Devour Flesh or Doom Blade in modern is hilarious. I don't understand why they all include Mikaeus, the Unhallowed either. Divinity of Pride is a thing much better suited for the slot that shouldn't exist. lol.

Because he's a straight up badass son of a bitch is why. Even though he has a 4B casting cost, it doesn't get much better than a strong creature who is amazing offensively and defensively
