The relevant ability? Or the fact the Polukranos, World Eater is a mythic?

The Q&A handles rules questions. Moved to Economics.

Polukranos, World Eater is a strong card and sees Standard play. Deadbridge Goliath is only average and sees no major play.

In my experience Polukranos, World Eater can act a pseudo bonfire and wipe the board before attacking where as Deadbridge Goliath is just a beater that can boost a creature later

yup, polukranos is essentially a one sided board wipe that gets bigger...

Deadbridge Goliath is underrated IMO. For one thing, you can have more than one of him at a time. Not saying it's as good as the hydra, but a buck for a four-cost 5/5 that later turns your elf into a 6/6, is a bit of an insult to the big bugger!

probebly due to polukranos has a useful ability while it is in play and the goliath when its in the grave and with all the graveyard hate that still sees play...

The fact that Polukranos, World Eater has an incredibly versatile monstrocity ability makes it a better pick than the Deadbridge Goliath . 6 mana scavange is very stale in comparison to combat tricks/psuedo boardwipe on smaller creatures.

All of this said, and all points conceded, Deadbridge Goliath is underrated and need to be answered bc I see them on T2 from time to time in my LGS. Yes, I know..."dies to Doom Blade , but I don't play B, and neither does a good portion of the MtG community, so it's a scary bug to be staring down at early game when you have no immediate answers.

imagine attacking with Polukranos, bloodrushing him with Wasteland Viper then activating his Monstrosity

It's all about demand and rarity, people are actively seeking Polukranos, World Eater but not Deadbridge Goliath . That right there makes the price of Polukranos go up. I mean which would you rather have a 5/5 for four mana that kills your opponents creatures without even attacking or a 5/5 creature for four mana (it's basically a vanilla creature since it's ability isn't even relevant while it's on the battlefield). It's not that Deadbridge Goliath is bad, it's just not as good as Polukranos.

@IAmKingTony that works the same way if you have Bow of Nylea out. Declare attackers, then before blockers are declared activate monstrosity.

IAmKingTony, you can only use Monstrosity at sorcery speed. It is NOT a combat shenanigan.

capriom85, You can definitely activate monstrosity at instant speed. It is an activated ability, and it doesn't say you can't activate as an instant.

capriom85 Monstrosity can be activated at instant speed, just like any other activated ability without any time restriction.

While I've always loved Deadbridge Goliath and do think he's still a bit underrated, the biggest problem for him right now is that Polukranos, World Eater costs the same mana , has the same P/T, and does more to advance your board-state right away. Deadbridge Goliath has to die and you have to invest 6 mana at Sorcery-speed onto a huge removal-magnet before you see any extra value. Polu's extra value comes at instant-speed on the following turn, and usually with the added ability of killing off a potential blocker.

Also, as you pointed out, Polu is a Mythic and is (thus) harder to find.

Polu is a threat that demands an answer within two turns or you simply die to it. Deadbridge can just be tossed around and chump-blocked without him being anything but a fast 5/5.

Polukranos can grow to whatever size you have the mana for, also you can create insane things like him and wasteland viper.
