Is that just where all mythics start out? I suppose Prophetic Flamespeaker was up there, but at least that card had some potential. This just seems like total trash. You have to give up a turn 2 in order for it to even be relevant, and you have to pay 13 mana before it even gets bigger than 3/3.

Is there some deck that actually needs this card that I'm not aware of?

People are likening it to Figure of Destiny. Which is kind of actually a good card. This one is less so, but it ain't terrible. Once people realize that Figure is a lot better for very specific reasons, it'll drop like a rock.

Warden of the First Tree is so expensive because of it's likeness to Figure of Destiny which was a fairly powerful card, just have to wait and see where it goes as Figure of Destiny is now a $2 rare.

Let's not forget that his last ability can be used more than once. He has a much higher ceiling than Figure of Destiny does.

And Figure of Destiny was reprinted like 4 times at rare level.

Frankly, it's easy to ignore everything beyond the first ability - you swing for 3 on turn 2, and then let it sit until you have nothing better to do with your mana. It remains to be seen if that's better than dropping a Fleecemane Lion or Rakshasa Deathdealer on turn 2 in Abzan aggro, but it's a strong option at least.

It's not a bad card at all. Having flexibility is useful if you don't draw into more creatures, for example. It's a very useful card to have and to test.

Warden of the First Tree is a repeatable mana sink at instant speed. The first and last activated abilities are bonkers and as a 3/3 he can block morphed and manifested creatures all day long. The four mana ability can be used after you have kept mana up for other shenanigans that you didn't need or you can wait until late game to use it as a dump and a prerequisite to the 6 mana ability.

$8 though I think is a bit steep and is just because of release mythic hype. I think it will come down to $4 while he is in standard and then drop to $1-2 since I don't see him being played outside of EDH and standard.
