Why is WestVale Abbey so expensive?

Is it just me that this doesn't make sense to or is anyone else wondering what deck picked this up that caused a price spike.
Being a rare is pretty insignificant to its price. The reason its expensive is its in a fringe standard deck that who knows it could be competitive. Its a deck with small creatures some scions and Cryptolith Rite which is also why the foil of this card is like 18 bucks. It should drop pretty soon unless it dominates a tournament

Lands which turn into threats have historically been good. And Ormendahl, Profane Prince Flip is a damn good threat.

For the same reason why Celestial Colonnade is good. Lands that also are spells are good.

Aside from decks that are trying to build around it in some sense (i.e. decks that naturally want to go wide), the land can be played with almost no consequence in any deck. It DOES NOT come into play tapped. If you skim a bunch of pro articles, the card shows up in almost every deck, with at least 1 copy. Really, why wouldn't you use at least 1 in ANY deck in standard?
All I'm trying to say is that although the price is due to "initial hype", the card will likely become ubiquitous in Standard; this can mean that the price will not drop for some time.

Makes dudes, can win the game, etb untapped, and can be played in a majority of the decks in Standard. It could drop to $10 but it could also get up to $25-$30 if it's as good as most spikes expect it to be.

Could be due to the fact that the set isn't even out yet and there's a literal 17 copies available.

Really hoping it drops. With Languish out for weenies and the many good removals available, opponents will be wary and looking to stop its flip. I think Thing in the Ice Flip flips much more easily and look at its current price. At the least Abbey can't be your sole wincon unless you bring it out late.
I do love the card though and I have the perfect place for it in a solider Aggro deck if I can manage to trade for a couple.

It does have a drawback if you're trying to play three colors, given the lesser mana fixing right now, although it's still kinda safe as a one-of if you don't have double-color costs all over the place.
I kinda wanna play it in White Weenie as an alternative.

You can put it in every 1- and 2-color non-control deck in standard with almost no drawbacks. Similar to Mutavault in RtR-Theros Standard. I'd be surprised if it goes below $10

Ah I see. I'll have to pic up a copy then eventually. Here's to hoping on my birthday :D

If the prince had hexproof it would be sick. Unfortunately it can still be exiled or board wiped so im not buying for hype cost.

Its because the set is new.Once people realize it looks better than it plays price will drop.Same reason for the preorder frenzies for every set."aahhh gotta have that 4.00 common even though it will be .40 next week ahhh"

Westvale Abbey Flip
It's expensive because we just got done with prerelease and it's a rare, as well as the fact that it's pretty good in standard. I don't think it will hold on to an $18 price tag.
