Will Deathrite Shaman ever be unbanned?

Economics forum

I have a playset of Deathrite Shaman that i'm not using and I wanted to know if you guys think they will ever be unbanned? And if so, how much $ will they cost at that point in time? Debating on selling them to fund a new modern deck.

No. It's too powerful. In the long run it will increase slightly due to demand and quantity.

They won't be unbanned for a very, very long time. Possibly ever.

DRS remains one of the very best one drops in Legacy so there will always be some demand for it. At its height, when it was still Modern legal, it peaked around $15, post banning for non-foil versions it started to slowly decline. DRS' normal printing dropped to (and has remained) right around $8-$9 and will probably stay there for some time unless demand spikes for some reason.

Foils are another story. Eternal players love their decks and love to pimp them out therefore the price of foil staples will often far surpass that of non-foil staples. DRS has remained somewhere between $62-$72 for the last year and a half or so. Granted, it used to be worth about $90, but still.

You really need to understand how insanely busted they are. There's literally not a single matchup where he's a dead card and he costs 1 mana. Against aggro he's a T1 play that can gain you life throughout the entire game. Against control he's a T1 (pretty much uncounterable) play that pings them for damage. Against anything else he can give you turn 2 lilianas. It's not the fact that any ability alone is too good. It's the fact that having that flexibility for 1 mana is silly.

DRS is essentially a one-drop Planeswalker. It may be unbanned at some point, but it would probably be banned again by the next cycle. It's just too good with fetches, it's easily splashable, and it always has something that it can do.

All you need to do is wait for rumors. Look at Stoneforge Mystic a few weeks ago. Jumped for no reason whatsoever, apart from a false banlist update. The price fell back some, but not all the way.

It's crazy broken...it'll never see play in modern again unless wizards decides to bump the power of all sets coming out in the future. Look at legacy for what raises it's price.
