Wonky Regrowth

Okay, So, I was cruising Gatherer and came across Regrowth and I went to SCG to price it. (That's just my go to site). Anyhow, Why is it more expensive from the Duel Deck: Heroes vs Monsters, at $2.99, than from 3rd Edition/Revised, at $1.99? Does it have to do with rarity? But Regrowth is way older. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything but I was just wondering.

Part of it is most likely just SCG doing their own thing with prices. I use tcgplayer for my prices, and on there the prices are close to each other.

I would say that the reason that one is more expensive than the other is just the art. Alternate art cards fetch higher prices just because there're less of them and that they may look better than the originals.

SCG doesn't give an accurate picture of what cards are worth - they overprice all their cards.

Use TCGplayer.com for card pricing.

Okay, Thanks for the info! I figured it was SCG's fault the pricing is all weird. But doesn't TCGplayer pull from outside sites? I don't really trust a lot of that.

It's related to the fact that the reprint has black borders and updated framing/wording. There's a legitimate reason for it to be worth more.

Since tcgplayer pulls data from hundreds of sites, sites who are a part of it need to have competitive pricings in order for people to order from them. Gold Star sellers usually are also brick-and-mortar stores meaning that you are safe to buy from them and not get ripped off/damaged merchandise as it would reflect negatively on them. If anything, tcgplayer is the most reliable place to check prices and/or order cards.

Okay, Regrowth is interesting in that aspect. Thanks for the other info Epochalyptik! So when I buy cards online I should do it from gold star TCGplayer sellers?

Yes, gold star sellers are the safest bet because that means that they've had a certain number of successful sales along with a high enough satisfaction rating.

I attribute the price gap to the art work and the fact the revised is white bordered. I would rather have the duel deck regrowth in my deck than a revised copy for esthetic reasons.
