I know that Magic is popular and fun and also has been around for quite a long time, but is it worth it to buy a ton of Magic cards? Technically speaking WOTC are making tons of money on pieces of paper. Now I understand that this has value, but in Wizards view, they are spending the money on prices of paper, because that’s what the cards are made out of. Now there is the cost of making the cards and production, and also paying there employees and also holding tournaments and such. I don’t really have a point in this thread, not having any bias or opinion, just wondering is WOTC making tons of money for us buying cards, although I do not object to this and continue going to hose town opening tons of Iconic Masters.

The answer to your question is yes - Magic, both paper and digital is making a whole bunch of money. Currently, Wizards is one of the few divisions of Hasbro that is doing exceptionally. Magic’s paper platform is selling better than ever, and Arena is bringing in significant funds, with large growth projections. D&D’s renewed popularity also helps Wizards’ projections, but does not come close to Magic in terms of sales.

Magic’s contribution to Hasbro has made a couple market watch publications, where it is talked about alongside the sales behemoth that is Monopoly and other classic Hasbro board games.

yes wotc is making lots of money. they have to in order to pay their employees. if you enjoy the game, its definitely worth it to buy cards. if they're the paper cards. digital cards aren't really worth it in my opinion. if servers shut down or magic stops making new product, i'll always have my paper cards that i can carry anywhere and play against anyone. way better than trying to carry around a laptop or tablet and hope my battery doesn't die, just to play arena.
