So a good friend and I have been bantering back and forth about a large trade for a bit. Finally came down to this.

My:

2x Remand (Duel Deck)

1x Abrupt Decay

4x Vengevine

3x Lotleth Troll

3x Lotus Petal

1x Memnite F

And 6x Urza lands

His:

3x Stoneforge Mystic

1x Cavern of Souls

1x Glimmerpost F

1x Zegana Prime Speaker

1x Kor Firewalker

1x Kataki, War's Wage

1x Wild Nacatl

We're both happy with the eternal value. But wow, that just felt epic.

Vengevine might fall off at some point, no? Dredge is only a thing where that card doesn't matter and the deck where it is used doesn't see much play, if any.

Vengevine held 12-15$ in value for some time, recently jumping after the TC ban. Likewise with Mystic, as she also saw a spike but started with a higher value.

If Dredge in Modern becomes a thing, Vine could hold and even increase in value, given it's Mythic print. Regardless, I made up it's flexibility with Remand and Abrupt Decay.

This trade was absolutely terrible for your friend if he doesn't intend to play Vengevine, for a simple reason: That card is nearly impossible to trade away, since there are no actual decks that you'd play it in. Meanwhile, you only got a foil Glimmerpost and a Prime Speaker Zegana to worry about trading away; the rest is extremely easy to offload. It's even better if you did need any of what you traded for.

It probably does look that way if you just look at how easy the cards are to sell, but as they are friends, I doubt either one of them was trying to force a trade so they could sell the cards after for a profit. They most likely intended to use most of the cards and the rest was filler so that no one got cheated out of value.

Yeah, I've been friends with this guy for 15 years. No one was trying to rip anyone off. He plays Dredge in Legacy and needed the Troll and Vine to play it in Modern. He's also building U Tron. I want to to play Junkblade and need the Cavern for 12 Post.

I'm actually really amused by this trade. On one hand, we've got huge cards like Mystic and Remand.

On the other hand, we've got a single copy of a mythic that saw little standard play. It's just funny to see a bulk rare thrown in with eternal staples.

It's not the size (of the trade) that matters, it's how you use it (the cards).
