I just finished buying all the cards for my new commander today and I need to buy some card sleeves for it, the problem is that I don't know which brand of sleeves to buy, so recommendations would be appreciated.

dragon shields are widely regarded for their durability. but regardless of brand, its generally better to just go with plain solid colored sleeves instead of a something with a fancy design if durability is a concern.

I’ve been buying dragon shields for a while now. Both the gloss finish and the matte. For initial appearance, the gloss are better due to the shine, however for extended playability, the matte finish is better. Over time, the gloss would start sticking together and making it harder to shuffle or draw.

The sleeves with designs on them are cool but it doesn’t take long for the corners of the artwork to start curling and pulling away from the sleeve itself.
The ultra-pro sleeves are fine, however they’re not hard to see through the back. If you use reversed proxies, DF cards, or whatnot, those might not be the best choices.
I speak all from personal experience and overall preference.

PlatinumKnight815 Are Dragon Shield sleeves made for double sleeving?

shirouu you can definitely double sleeve with dragon shields. I would definitely recommend getting perfect fits, i prefer the smoke brand perfect fits. I would also recommend getting the MATTE dragon shields they hold up the best I feel.

As PlatinumKnight815 said, Dragon Shield matte or double matte are generally perceived as the best sleeves, and they also recently released some very high quality art-backed sleeves that will probably hold up for a long time. I have not personally used any art-back DS sleeves yet though.
Additionally, Deck Pro Eclipse sleeves are also very good, have a slightly different feel, and I believe they are all completely opaque. Fewer colors to choose from, though.
Both of which are fine for double sleeving. Hope that helps. =)

Gattison I don't double sleeve my cards so would the Dragon Shield sleeves be too large?
June 17, 2018 5:03 p.m.
Nope, not at all. You won't even notice the half-a-millimeter of "extra space." lol =D

Dragon shields and ultra pro eclipses are your best bets. Shields are a tad more durable and ultras have an anti glare finish so your foils won't shine the same. Also I know a few people who dont like the shuffle feel on ultras I dont mind it though

I use Dragon Shield matte and they’re great, they last a long time. I don’t double sleeve either.
I have heard good things about the Ultra Pro Eclipse as well.

For this or any other product questions, I highly recommend checking out the Professor at Tolarian Community College on YouTube. Link

The top sleeves I have are Light Blue (turquoise) Ultra Pro Eclipse for my Highlander, Dragoshield Green Matte for the Brawl and Dragonshield Art for the EDH.
I am satisfied with all three and recommend them above all else with one note: I have not tested the art too much since I got them a couple of weeks ago.

Dragon Shields are great but they are NOT 100% opaque and if you are using double sided magic cards you'll need to use checklist cards for them. Other than that they're great sleeves for double sleeving EDH decks.

Rzepkanut I have checklist cards so that shouldn't be a problem, thanks.

hardhitta71194 But the ultra pro eclipse probably has the small ultra pro logo in the bottom right corner, so i'm just going to buy some dragon shield sleeves, thanks though.

Ultimate guard Standard sleeves are in my opinion the best for double sleeving. I really like to double sleeve my decks. With U.G. The shuffling sensation is better and the deck is easy to shuffle. Also the durability is good. Dragon shield matte, on the other hand, are very good because are more durable and thick, but they have a big problem: the corners grip the playmat ruining it and making tapping and untapping very unconfortable

moongoblin I literally just got back from my local game store with a playmat and dragon shields sleeves for my commander, ouch.

Also of note, Ultra Pro Eclipses do NOT have the hologram on them. Just so you know.

I’ve never had a problem with matte Shield’s corners gripping the playmat before. Perhaps that’s just because my tapping and untapping methods include lifting or partially lifting the card up, not just rotating it on the playmat.

I'd direct this question to the gear forum. Don't think it really qualifies as a rules question.
