Anyone Else Prefer White Borders?

I really just like that crisp, old look it gives the card. I've also found that they tend to age pretty well, whereas a lot of old black borders develop those immediately noticeable white nicks in their paint that drives me absolutely nuts.

Of course I realize there must be others >.>. I'm curious as to how many, because most people I've talked to hate it and go out of their way to buy black boarders.

I LOVE the white borders actually. I remember when the Pain Lands were spoiled for M15, I went and payed nearly $10 or so each for a set of Shivan Reef. It was worth it too me.

I kinda liked them for the lands, but that's about it. Full art lands > White Border Lands > Normal Lands

I don't mind them. I like them when they are mint, but the amount of wear they can endure before I don't like them is a lot less than for black-bordered.
I have an Academy Ruins with its black borders painted white. It's interesting.

Guess someone else had the same idea as the person I got the Academy Ruins from!

I am all about uniform, I hate having 58 cards black bordered and 2 with white borders, kills me on the inside

If I could have this Island in full-art, I'd be happy. The best art.
February 21, 2016 10:35 p.m.
Unlimited by Mark Poole? Why? He's got some of the worst art in MtG history. And that island's not even that hard to alter. I've done two alters so far and I'm pretty sure I could do that nicely enough. lol.
Man, am I hating on this thread or what?

White borders on white cards with white sleeves... otherwise I definitely prefer black borders.

You're taking a break from video games, League in particular if I remember correctly, TheDevicer? You're a League player, that salt has to go somewhere.

@TheDevicer I actually really love those card arts you posted. the white border gives it a very unique feel that lights up whats around it.
I'm fine with white borders, personally, but really only with green cards.I thin green looks great with white borders.

TheDevicer: how do you white border your cards? I think those are gorgeous!
February 21, 2016 11:27 p.m.
Those cards aren't mine. I'd never do that to a card but the process isn't hard. There's really two ways to make black-bordered cards have white boarders. One is to erase the ink and the other is to paint over it. Erasing it is much cleaner but creates a ton of debris, eats through erasers, and uses lots of elbow grease. You start off by masking the card (preferably by using high quality masking tape like Frog Tape). It'll look like this except the paint should meet the very edge of the border:
Then you'll get to work erasing the ink with erasers like the Prismacolor Magic Rub:
The pictures you see here are from someone erasing the art past the border because they want to alter the card. You can just stop at the edges. Final product:

@ducttapedeckbox - I dropped gaming altogether. I developed a wrist injury from repetitive motions while using the computer and mouse daily. I'm a freelance writer, meaning I work from 10:30 to 8:00 each day with breaks here and there. With that much use of the keyboard and mouse, can't play games. I ended up picking altering cards because its incredibly time-consuming and forces my wrist to do motions other than the repetitive clicking ones I'm forced to do while working.

I think I remmeber seeing you mention that in JC or something (occasionally read the posts, never really post myself). To be honest I don't think you're missing much in this season of League. I've considered getting into card altering, I've done 3D alters but I'd like to get some better knives before delving further into that.
Has your wrist been improving?

Yes, I actually like the white border on a card quite a lot. If it's in mint condition. Most of my friends think I'm nuts though. :/

I happen to really love the white border anythings, but only if the deck is as white as it can get. I'm currently in the process of establishing Mono White-Border Tribal amongst my Imperial Painter legacy deck. All that I really need to alter would be the tops, lands and goblin welders, though going to work on the City of Traitors is a huge commitment that I might not be ready for yet.
Also, fun fact, I used to play mono white border blue tron, which is the same deck that ducttapedeckbox's whited Academy Ruins came from.

I mean I prefer black border but white border is fine depending on the card and how many printings it has and the art on it. Also white borders do not look crisp and they age horribly they show dirt and age ridiculously at least in my opinion and experience. And seriously the most important thing is if anyone purposely white borders their black border cards I will personally tell them off because that is the most ridiculous disgusting act I could ever experience in magic

EmblemMan I just can't stand the little white spot you can get on black borders after playing with them for a long time. It'll happen to about one card in my entire deck, and it drives me absolutely nuts.
Not sure if it's from someone improperly shuffling the deck or what because it happened to a card that has never left its sleeve.

And now it's in my UTron list, DevoidMage!
I wouldn't be dare touch my promo Wurmcoils with paint, so I think my deck will remain mixed.
