Baneslayer Angel, you say?

This might seem like a stupid question, but...

Why, exactly, is Baneslayer Angel so good? It's a 5-drop, and will almost certainly eat one of : Path to Exile Deathmark Terminate Vendetta Doom Blade Journey to Nowhere Oblivion Ring Maelstrom Pulse , or even Martial Coup or day-of-judgement, only one of which costs 5 or more mana, in short order, none of which it has any form of resistance to. Yes, it will win a straight-up fight against anything with less than 5 toughness and no first strike, but the evasion is only so-so, lifelink, well, requires combat damage, and the protection is utterly useless. A creature and a burn spell take it out, gangblock, etc. I mean, I understand that it's good, but not $50+ good... am I missing something here?

My friends play aura/enchantment decks. With Sphere of Safety s, Ethereal Armor , and totem armor enchantments.

They're not fun to play 2HD against. or even individually.

Sphere of Safety is an evil card, freakin love it since it messes with Assemble the Legion , though purphoros still makes assemble lethal.

This Standard makes me wish we still had Erase and Paraselene .

At least we still have Merciless Eviction and the king of all artifact/enchantment removal, Naturalize . And Theros gave us Fade into Antiquity .

Erase would be amazing with the gods, too bad it wasnt reprinted.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's why it wasn't reprinted. Shutting down any god for W at instant speed is a little ridiculous.

2/1 firebreather for 1 cmc is good.

Aggressive decks shouldn't care about their own life total, and if you've let the game drag long enough that you're worried about Firedrinker getting blocked and taking heat from it, in an aggressive build, you've already lost the game.

Firedrinker Satyr may demand a specific build, but it's still good for its archetype.
