Maybe not teach me but just show me some examples of classic and current 5 color decks.
Different ways of producing the right mana. What justifies adding the 5th color over the 4th or even 3rd.
Thats as well as I can describe what I want to know. I kinda wanna see some five color discussion involving people more skilled and knowledgeable than I am.
Thanks.
Adding extra colours is all about getting what you need to make your deck more effective at winning, in my opinion. To make a good 5 colour deck, you need a very clear idea of what you want the deck to do, and be certain that it wouldn't run more efficiently with just two or three colours instead.
As for Mana-fixing, the most popular way is to have a variety of dual-lands, like Dragonskull Summit . Fetch-lands (Evolving Wilds , Terramorphic Expanse ), and pain-lands (Polluted Delta , Misty Rainforest ), are also very popular, and in certain situations help to "thin" your deck. Lands like Reflecting Pool and Pillar of the Paruns could also be used, depending on what you're trying to achieve with your deck. Ancient Ziggurat as well.
Artifacts and creatures that tap for mana, the most popular probably being Birds of Paradise . are used quite often.
Hope that helped a little.

Focus on 1 of the colours that you may wanna look into running, My fav is green as a main colour. It has Birds of Paradise , Fertile Ground , Harrow , and lots of other land search abilities...
Like what Vorxis said though, you need to look at why your wanting to build 5 colour decks, and work around that basis.
A few things to ask yourself.
- What colours do you need more than the others? what's your key colour cards?
- what cards are you using as win conditions? You need to look at the colours. You can't really afford to go 'all over the place' try and use a main colour or 2 for getting setup. When you play test with differnet colour cards, you'll start to see why...
- What colour do you need to run most off? Green would be my call because it can search for your other lands better, and quicker. It could though be blue to enable you to play bounce and counterspells... Your deck choice is your decision.
- Mana Fixers! You need this for times when you need that vital 5th colour... Usually these will be in the form of artifacts, but enchant lands also provide a nice levy.
- Play style. The most important thing of all for 5 colour deck.

One of my favorite 5 color manabases was vivid lands and Reflecting Pool mana base of the 5 Color Control decks last year.

Green is by far the easiest to multicolor with due to either elves which produce other color mana or can convert it to the right color of course Gemhide Sliver is great if you want to try a multicolor sliver deck but slivers don't tend to work well with more than 3 colors in the mix. dual lands (expensive) and lairs are efficient multicolor lands but are hard to come by. if you play a deck heavy in black cards the tainted lands are good. but seriously without knowing the concept of the deck build it is hard to make suggestions

Composite Golem and some fifthdawn stuff would be my suggestion or myocosynth lattice would be the easiest way to play door but personally i don't care for it.

I know its hard to make suggestions to such a vague question.
I more than anything else wanted links to the classic 5 color deck types so I can see what when and why 5 color.
The main reason I would want to go 5 color is for an ultimate toolbox that can dip into any color, but I also know that if your deck is just based on answering stuff then you lack a valid strategy to win.

too many cards, Maelstrom Coalition, Tutor this, buddy!, from these link to other similar decks. I think that you will get the idea. Five color is tough to pull off and nearly impossible as a real and effective deck, most are casual.
The real problem you will see is how monetarily expensive the mana fixing is. Is it worth it? Often not.

Some creatures like Fusion Elemental and maybe a Progenitus go well in all-colored decks... maybe because they can only go in all-colored decks...
When I go back home I'll dig out mine and put it up here for reference. (:

land combo with Reflecting Pool and anything that can add any colour of mana: Tendo Ice Bridge , Pillar of the Paruns , Ancient Ziggurat etc. not to mention the tri-coloured lands Crumbling Necropolis etc.
Bloom Tender 's great if your playing with multicoloured permanents.
once your mana's sorted the planes are your oysters

re Progenitus : Some of the best uses of Progenitus have actually come from mono coloured decks, which utilise cards from that specific colour to pull it out fast, Green being the obvious choice with cards such as Natural Order , Elvish Piper , and others I can't be bothered to think of right now.
The obvious creature type to use in a 5 colour deck would probably be slivers, in my opinion, as there are some of each colour, and a couple of every colour (Sliver Legion , Sliver Queen ). Apart from that, go dragons..

Look at my Rise of New Alara deck, it should give you some ideas. I'd recommend figuring out exactly what type of 5 color deck you want. mine is all gold, so naturally, Pillar of the Paruns is a pretty good choice.

So I am considering playing in SCG Open Knoxville in May with my build
The Dark Ages Playtest
Standard
SCORE: 9 | 11 COMMENTS | 560 VIEWSand I just have a few questions. Generally, how many players attend these events? Is my deck competitive enough to not be completely destroyed? For those of you who have attended one, was it a fun experience or more stressful? Ideally I would like to make my money back, but mainly I just want it for the experience. So, what are your opinions on this and how have your experiences been with these events in the past?

I just attended SCG Milwaukee this weekend, so most of this post is going to be based on that experience.
First off, I have to say that these events are a great place to dump off your rotatos (Things that are rotating but are still worth money). I was able to trade in for pretty much everything I needed for my theros block deck, and half of a new modern deck.
Overall, I'd say that the day was a lot of fun, but be warned that it is a LONG day. Our event was 10 rounds, which on paper doesn't seem like too much, but if you aren't used to that sort of grind, it can be rough. If you love playing your deck though, you'll have a good time.
As for your deck, it all depends on what comes with Journey. I know a few cards have been revealed already, but we don't now what the popular deck is going to be in May, so we don't really know if your deck choice will be good or not. I mean, the deck is pretty solid, and if you played it this weekend, you'd go 5-5 minimum, I'd predict.
But anyway, I really like going to big events like these. You get to meet a lot of really cool people, get some cards signed by artists, and have a good time playing Magic. If you like to socialize, this is a great place to do it. I'd say that it's definitely worth a shot.

I'd think about adding Devour Flesh for when you run into Blood Baron of Vizkopa

notamardybum I haven't had any real trouble with Baron, by the time he is resolved I've already accumulated an army. If i start having trouble being with him I'll throw a couple of him in the sideboard maybe.
